We recently called into the Monasterboice Inn without a reservation and were delighted to be accommodated. It had been quite some time since our last visit, and from the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional.
The food was as wonderful as we remembered. The Chicken Maryland is still an absolute standout dish—a classic that's perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious.
What elevated the evening, however, was our waiter, Niall. His service was nothing short of exceptional. He was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our meal a fantastic experience. His professionalism and great personality made us feel incredibly welcome and well-cared for.
Looking forward to a return visit. A huge thank you to Niall and the entire team for a memorable night.
Monasterboice is an ancient Irish monastery in ruins, but with a historic charm that makes it highly recommended. Although much of the structure is deteriorated, it stands out for its impressive carved Celtic crosses—especially the Muiredach's Cross—and a tall round tower from the 10th century that still stands. It's a peaceful place with free admission, ideal for a short stop steeped in history and Celtic symbolism.
Thought the service ,staff and food excellent. I do,however, feel it is quite expensive compared to similar venus in the area. It would be a big factor in my future decisions to dine out here.
We happened to pass by here late this afternoon and stopped for dinner. The servers were very friendly and prompt, but without any pressure. The food was very good and beautifully presented. Prices are typical for today (17-24 euros for a main course). The restrooms were clean. There were a lot of locals here, which is usually a good sign.
Another lovely meal and desert today lovely coffee too as expected. Once I had an issue with a meal and staff were very prompt sorting it out and even took it off the menu. I always enjoy my meal when I come here and staff are very helpful. Top marks 👌
