Food well cooked, presentation was average. Staff well intentioned but need training. Pricing was top end and not worth it. Disappointed.

Our favourite restaurant in Sligo. Anthony is incredible - the food is sublime. Jake is brilliant front of house. We love the atmosphere. A gem in Sligo.

Been to Sligo twice in the last year. The first time we found Eala Bhan by searching on Google. The second time there was no question, we just had to come back! Fantastic Food (the pork belly! Oh.My.God.). Fantastic staff. And a very nice wine list to boot!

Very good food in Sligo. My group of 10 enjoyed what we ate. The service was laughable. One woman tried hard to make up for the inattentiveness of the other 3 or 4 people serving us. They absolutely couldn’t have paid less attention. They failed to deliver lots of pieces of the meal. Every step of the way was a miss. We finally got to the bill and thought we had survived the service, but even the bill was wrong (he forgot to add the service charge and had to return with a new bill). We ate at Hooked the previous night and had delightful service. Since it’s the same ownership, we were surprised.

Was excited about the thought of coming here do booked on our way to Sligo. Was really disappointed in the menu choices that had mismatched flavours and seemed gimmicky. The fish was relatively tasteless especially combined with a strongly flavoured capsicum, saffron and tomato risotto. Have tasted far better seafood in other coastal places in Ireland. The balance of what was used in their menu lacked the skills if good cuisine. The desert was hilarious but also flavourless. All in all this was a gourmet disappointment that was expensive and not worth it. Be warned! The staff also seemed disinterested in their work. Head to Doolin if you want fresh and interesting local cuisine.

I really wanted to love Eala Bhán — the presentation is genuinely beautiful and clearly takes effort. Every plate looks like a piece of art. But beyond the visuals, the experience just didn’t deliver. The “Wild Atlantic Way” starter (€18.95) was essentially one fish ball, one scallop, and one langoustine. Portion-wise, it felt more like a tasting bite than a starter — and taste-wise it was only okay, nothing memorable. The main (“Boat Comes In” €39.95) was even more disappointing: two tiny pieces of fish in a seaside town, with a small portion of rice that was heavily over-sauced. For €40, both the quantity and quality felt off. For comparison, the fish and chips at The Harp Tavern nearby were far more satisfying, more flavourful, and costed €16. Overall: visually impressive, but the food itself was just fair and the portions/pricing feel completely out of balance.

This has to be the premier restaurant in Sligo and in the whole North West of Ireland. Every dish was a work of art and the tastes matched the appearance. Unpretentious atmosphere. Relaxed and low key. The service was excellent. If you’re looking for a particular bargain, go for the pre-theatre set menu available until 6.20pm. €44.95 for 3 courses. Highly recommended but you must book a table in advance to avoid disappointment.

Hargadon Bros

11/07/2026: The food at Hargadon Bros was genuinely delicious. I had the fish and chips and my girlfriend had the burger with avocado, and we’d have no complaints on that front. Unfortunately, the service let the experience down. We were seated in a nook to the left of the room, which was cosy enough but seemed to leave us invisible to the staff, and getting attention took real effort throughout the evening. The low point was dessert: after flagging down a waitress, we ordered and were brought two spoons - but the dessert itself never came. After waiting 20 minutes, I gave up and went looking for someone to bring the bill instead. A waiter did notice the spoons on our table and asked if we’d ordered dessert, but by then we no longer wanted it. Lovely food, but the service needs attention - especially for tables tucked out of sight.
07/07/2026: We arrived naively on a Saturday night when they were very busy and we could not get a table. Most places would say no and that be it. But the extremely nice hostess walked us outside and gave us great recommendations for other places to try. She took the time and effort even thought they were busy inside. You can best believe that we will be coming back here on our next trip and will remember to make a booking here due to their super nice staff and because the food smelled amazing!
