27/12/2024: I've been putting off writing this review because the prospect of saying everything that needs to be said is daunting. Maybe impossible. And also because I nominated them for a wedding venue award, which took awhile. My wife and I had our wedding and reception here in October for about 30 people. The atmosphere was perfect - cozy and intimate but not overcrowded or stuffy. It felt comfortable and homey but not cheap. A quintessential country pub, with all the tradition that carries. The food was incredible (spit-roasted local lamb over an open hearth turf fire, anyone?), the photographer was great, and the music (both live and DJ) was sincerely amazing. Everything was included in the wedding package, even two nights at a stunning cottage overlooking the lough. But Naoise, the coordinator, truly sent it over the top. She was constantly available, proactively engaged, and just went miles above and beyond to remove the stress of planning a wedding from overseas. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. They made us feel somehow simultaneously celebrated and part of the community. It was a perfect wedding. Absolutely perfect. If you're looking for a genuine human experience from an alternative microwedding venue that boasts waterfront dining in a rural Gaeltacht community, this is your spot. We laughed, we cried, we danced, and we cannot stop talking about it.
It might not be my home, but it now occupies a suspiciously home-shaped place in my heart.
Naoise, we'll be back!
