Garavan's Bar is one of Galway's most famous and historic traditional pubs, located in the heart of the city center. Officially founded in 1937 by the Garavan family as the "Spirit Grocery" (a combination of a grocery store and a pub), the historic building originally dates back to 1650, retaining its medieval walls and period fireplaces. Today, it is a landmark on the Galway Whiskey Trail and has garnered prestigious awards, including the title of City Bar of the Year 2025.

Great place for pints and the craic. Make sure to visit on your next trip to Galway. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

The Irish coffee really is excellent here and the live music made the whole experience. When we visited, they were playing Simon & Garfunkel, which was an unexpected and wonderful soundtrack to an evening in Galway. Cozy, welcoming, and exactly the kind of pub experience we were hoping to find.
