Highly recommended. The Spanish guy behind the bar, Juan, is charming. He contributes to a perfect atmosphere in a special place. Great whisky selection.

We stumbled across this pub whilst walking in Cork. We were attracted as it was called the Hibernian (we’re from Edinburgh!). What a delight! It was heaving, tiny and one of the most friendly pubs. There is a no phone policy that everyone obeyed and it was lively chatty vibe. The most unique pub I’ve ever visited. Definitely worth a pint and a visit.

I have been a long term customer of the hi b but from my last visit, it's appeal seems to have changed and it wants to be more mainstream, over 10 euro for a glass of white wine I think is crazy and I thought the bar tender was very professional in how he prepared drinks but came across a bit rude to customers.

This is a small pub in Cork City center but it is always busy. I stop here with friends for a drink every once in a while. The bar is always busy but there is a quick turnover. Some people go to this bar for a quick drink. There is only one bartender behind the bar and he is good with his service for everyone. He is fast serving people and mixing drinks. He remembers always what people are drinking and knows what people want. The pub has all kinds of drinks but I like that they serve Guinness, Murphy's and Beamish stout on tap. I enjoy Beamish because it is smoother than the others but it is great that I can choose. With hard drinks, they serve almost everything you crave. It will be nice to have cider on tap but they only have bottles.
Overall this is a nice small pub to enjoy a drink a nice time with friends. And I like that there are no phones allowed to be used in the pub.

This is a must try place for a drink when visiting Cork. Set in the center in Oliver Plunkett street its like taking a step back in time. They have a strict NO PHONE policy which l loved as it stimulates conversation and a great atmosphere. The staff where friendly and the drinks tasty ... what more could you want.

Popped into The Hi-B on recommendation from Failte Ireland knowing the no phone policy. Stephen was great craic and a fantastic bar man. We stayed for almost 3 hours chatting with other pub goers hailing from Texas to Manchester. Great night and we’ll be coming back next time we visit Cork.

Really loved this place! Quaint, bartender (Stephen) was super knowledge and friendly and professional. Felt very welcome. Would be back!
My wife did say it smelled slightly when we walked in. I felt it just smelled old, but wasn't overbearing.

No phones policy makes this pub a place where people actually talk to eachother. No place like it in Cork.

Absolutely loved this spot. The bartender, Juan, was not only incredibly skilled but also genuinely kind — made us feel right at home. The small, intimate atmosphere added to the charm, and the bar’s unique no phone and “please” policy was a refreshing touch. It encouraged real conversation and a bit of old-school courtesy you don’t often see anymore. Can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking for a more thoughtful, personal experience in the city.
(Juan let me break the phone policy to take a photo. Not only did he say yes, but he joined us in the photo)
Came alway from Alaska for this experience! Would recommend!
