One of the best pub meals we’ve had this year—and we’ve had a few in some pricey spots! The Gravediggers is an absolute gem. We were warmly welcomed, and the hospitality was second to none. My wife’s seafood chowder was superb, and my beef, Guinness, and barley stew was rich and delicious. The atmosphere is authentic, the food outstanding, and the whole experience just fantastic. Get there early—you won’t want to miss this place!

The hype is real, the Guinness is amazing and the service is authentic. Every other Guinness in Dublin didn't even come close, despite being better than any other Guinness I've had else where.

Visiting Dublin for a concert and recommended the Gravediggers by my Dad who visited years ago. Unbelievable, friendly service. Great Guinness and I think the dearest item on the menu was about €12. Irish Beef Guinness stew was amazing. Great atmosphere as a locals pub with a few tourists here and there. Way better than the places in the city centre.

John Kavanagh’s, affectionately known as “The Gravediggers,” is a cherished Dublin institution that has been serving patrons since 1833. Nestled beside Glasnevin Cemetery, this family-run pub offers an authentic Irish experience, free from modern distractions like televisions and loud music. The interior exudes old-world charm, featuring traditional wooden furnishings and a cozy atmosphere that invites conversation. Renowned for its exceptional pints of Guinness, many consider it among the best in the city. The menu boasts hearty, home-cooked dishes, with the coddle being a standout favorite. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a stop at The Gravediggers promises a warm welcome and a genuine taste of Dublin’s rich pub heritage.

A 190+ year old pub near by the National Botanic Gardens. The bar has nice dark decor and the age shows, it's not worn out or tired though. Lovely dark floor and furniture and honey colored walls.
No music and no TV, just a nice place to sit, have a drink and talk. Friendly staff.
Next to a large, intersting looking, cemetery.
