A shout out to Hilary and the staff. The food was excellent and the staff were even better. We had fish and chips, bacon and cabbage (with great Irish mashed potatoes) and vegetable curry. All of us would recommend what we ordered. A lovely place to go with beautiful framed photos and art work. If you like Irish heroes and/or Greyhounds then this is the place for you. A great traditional pub. Thank you, Hilary, for making me feel at home. You are the best and I will come see you again.

I was expecting something really special here, it had all the charm, and I’d heard some good reviews. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. It was a bit of a squeeze, despite the restaurant being nearly empty as it was at the beginning of lunch service. They put us at a small table at the back of the restaurant, two of which had been added when they shouldn’t have been as there wasn’t room for them. The menu was quite good and prices reasonable, so we were pleasantly surprised, but when the food came, the chowder was only okay, but the disappointment came with the chips/fries my husband had with his chicken Kiev. They were poor quality, but the oil obviously had to be changed. Overall, I probably set my expectations too high for this place.

Excellent spot for a meal. The chowder was delicious with huge chunks of salmon, and our 5 year old daughter ordered the soup of the day and ate most, it was very tasty. Brown bread was a nice accoutrement to both soups. Bacon and Cabbage dish was very hearty and warming. Highly recommend this place - staff is friendly and food is excellent, many friendly locals to chat with as well!

A great location, friendly staff, and tasty food at fair prices. We were there in the late afternoon. I ordered a salad with baked goat cheese. It was perfectly adequate.

Nine of us arrived on 10/06 after the kitchen closed and they kindly fed us anyway. Courteous service, generous portions, very good and tasty food. Convenient price... I would go back tomorrow. Thanks

Stopped in for a late lunch on the way to the Cliffs. Had the special - roast beef with mashed potatoes and veggies. Gravy was delicious and the creamy horseradish was amazing! Service was quick and friendly. Thank you for the quick scrumptious meal chased by a tasty pint of Guinness! Grabbed a few orders of chips for the road.

It looked like a cute place, and the people where very friendly, but the food was tasteless. We had the fish&chips, it had really no taste. Unfortunately also the coke tasted like it had been oopened for a few days. Maybe we had just bad luck.

Visited McHughs today for some lunch. We all ordered Bangers and Mash. Absolutely delicious. Tasty and plentiful. Two of us had sticky toffee pudding for dessert and one had apple pie. All were absolutely scrumptious. It was such a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere in McHughs and the lady who served us was friendly and not intrusive. We will definitely be back here again. A very big thumbs up from me!!

Vaughan's Anchor Inn

28/06/2025: I dined here at the weekend and had the best experience. The staff are fantastic; very, very professional and welcoming. The decor is nice and modern, and the food is without a doubt Michelin star worthy, more than worthy, as you can see from the pictures. Well worth a visit here. My only gripe was the cocktails, they were not traditionally made.. for example the whiskey sour was missing bitters and the old fashioned was fizzy. I have never had a fizzy old fashioned, and I would not have ordered it had I known it would be carbonated. The drinks menu should reflect what cocktails you have on offer, in addition to your own spin on drinks. However, still 5 stars, I had a lovely time here.
27/06/2025: I never expected to eat so well behind that facade. We stopped by by chance after visiting the cliffs, and the food was spectacular. Don't expect a typical pub... this is a high-end restaurant... Enjoy!
