Great food and excellent place to eat

The place is located at the entrance to the gorge road, making it very convenient for leaving the car, walking the route, and then having dinner. The pub atmosphere is quaint, and they even have live performances with traditional dances (very nice), but the food is poor (the worst stews we've had in Ireland) and the service is terrible (we waited over 40 minutes for the only dish we ordered, and the waiters were rude).

Great food and beer! In the evenings you can also listen to Irish music and watch dance. The place is in the start/end point for Gap of Dunloe trip, so the best place to finish your daily activities and eat after hike. Roasted lamb, salmon and chowder were very tasty.

Such an amazing lunch experience. We had dhal and rice, pizza and the deserts. They were just amazing. The dhal was so nice and hot. As a vegetarian getting some dhal with rice has been really fulfilling. Thank you so much Betty for the amazing service. Thank you Ronan for the great work!

We went when it was a bit quiet. They were set up for music later on so I imagine the atmosphere would have been 5 star at that point. Food (roast beef) was delicious but I felt they were a bit stingy on the veg - although there was plenty of mash. Prices were great by Killarney standards. I'd definitely recommend it.

We've parked and ate here before visiting the Gap. There's not much choice if that's what you're here for. But the food was surprisingly decent, albeit overpriced. Service was fantastic.

I was super excited for months to visit the cottage. The interior is really cool, nicely decorated and people every, even at 3:00 p.m. for a late lunch. The service was ok. Our waitress couldn't really answer our questions but was very nice & followed up with us a few times. The food was a bit of a let down. It was reasonable priced but the dishes were just ok. It was a decent late lunch meal, not really a place I'd go back to eat again. I was on a quest to try seafood chowder at each place we visited during our 10 day tour and this chowder was not great. I actually felt pretty bad for it - it was more like a broth base that had a bit of cream & flour tossed in & the seafood hadn't really simmered and melded into the broth. It was truly like someone made broth in one pot, warmed seafood in another and put both in one bowl before serving it. Please beware - the cheesecake is a no bake cheesecake and the Bailey's Irish cream is in the cheesecake. Why is this a problem? Because my recovering alcoholic husband took a massive bite after the waitress told us the Bailey's was cooked into the cheesecake (before we ordered it). Definitely not the case - needless to say that was his only bite! I never considered myself a cheesecake snob but after being served no bake cheesecake, I've accepted I am just that. Good news - I'll know next time we visit Ireland to ask is your cheesecake baked or no bake 😉

This a surprisingly superior restaurant in the barn 🤔. Great lamb, great sups, great desserts. Unbelievable. We've spend already a week in Ireland and this was absolutely the best dinner we had. Thank you Kates' Cottage!
