Ming Garden

23/02/2025: Unfortunately, we may have caught them on a not so great day. Brought to our table and waited 10 minutes to be handed menus. The restaurant was not busy at this point in time. Another table was observed requesting menus when they had arrived also. Upon drinks requests, my partner was handed a bottle of Chinese beer. She had to request the glass. On to starters, the chicken and sweetcorn soup was very good. However, my partner was handed vegetable pancake rolls which felt were missing chilli sauce as is standard in most other places of this cuisine. Things didn't get better for her going forward. Enter mains. Her sweet chilli chicken was very difficult to cut into and extremely dry. After trying it myself, I can confirm that this dish was definitely reheated from the day/night before. On a positive note, my baked chicken in Portuguese sauce was fantastic. Noodles and chips were also very good. Unfortunately, my partner's experience may be the reason we do not return here again.
22/02/2025: It was a full hour from arrival to getting the food. The smallest bottle of beer was €6.50 beer which probably cast them a quid or so which then starts to look like a rip off. Delaying food probably sells more alcohol. The sweet and sour chicken was as chewing as octopus but I ordered chicken. My girlfriend couldn't be confident that her teeth would last so she took my chicken with garlic and spring onions which was lovely and soft and arrived sizzling in an iron dish which was great. I don't like sweet and sour but, hey ho! She was really annoyed at the delay so I chewed the chicken! The fried rice was good enough as were the chips. The mints should have been laced with a benzodiazipine anxiolytic! The native woman host was nice. The man was friendly but less interactive. They seemed stressed but there was no queue but perhaps takeaway orders were a factor. To summarise, One chicken dish lovely they other a dental liability. The atmosphere was tense and neglectful. Add a portion af rice and chips and pay €65 which is 2 weeks grocery shopping for me. It reminds me why I seldom eat out!!
