I was last here in January of 1999, and from the photos, it seems like it is exactly was it was then, and countless years before. A wonderful place to have a drink or a pint.

The Guinness was absolutely brilliant – one of the nicest pints I’ve had in Dublin. The interior is gorgeous, with really high ceilings, dark wood everywhere, and that proper historic feeling you want from a city pub. It feels cosy without being cramped, and there’s a nice buzz without it being loud. I’d recommend it for a date night or a chill night with friends when you actually want to talk and enjoy a great pint. Friendly punters and staff. A real gem just off Grafton Street.

Good little pub close to Grafton street. Service is generally excellent with a great pint of Guinness! Price of pints is bit steep but I guess that’s due to the location. Only slight downside would be bathrooms based upstairs.

McDaid’s was another stop on my “Dublin Pub Crawl” list, so I swung in on a quiet weekday afternoon to check it off. It is a cool place with a great old Dublin atmosphere, tall narrow layout and plenty of standing room around the bar. Unfortunately, the bartender was completely uninterested in making conversation. There were only two of us in the whole bar, and I still could not get more than a shrug out of him. I asked for a pen so I could cross McDaid’s off my pub crawl list and you would swear I had asked him for a personal loan. Now, a public service announcement: do not come here if you need ADA compliant restrooms. The men’s toilet is up three flights of stairs. I almost needed to go back down for a pint mid-climb just to stay hydrated. Great cardio workout, terrible bathroom accessibility. Overall, McDaid’s has a cool vibe, solid history and is worth seeing, but do not expect easy access to the toilets. Great for the story though and checked off the list.

Halfway House

05/10/2025: Had a lovely meal on Sunday. Staff are fantastic. Make sure to either book a table or get there before 1pm as it fills very quickly. That's the only quibble I would have.
01/10/2025: Great pub. Many's a pint had there.Never ask the owner for a bag of ice as its very precious to him.
