27/05/2025: Our favourite restaurant in Dungarvan
Yes, our favourite restaurant in Dungarvan (The Shamrock, Noarks and Tikka Masala close seconds). I'm seeing lots of "worst Chinese" ever reviews and it's leaving me puzzled.
We go there as a FIRST choice restaurant for our family occasions (anniversaries, birthdays, etc ). Speaking of birthdays, if you mention to one of the staff that someone is celebrating a birthday, come dessert time the music changes, happy birthday is played and they come out with a candle on the dessert - which is always a nice touch, and the kids love it.
The food? Well, first of all you are given complimentary prawn crackers which is nice (every restaurant should have something like this - even brown bread or something for the Irish ones, to take the hunger off you while you're waiting).
My wife and I, always opt for set dinner A - which features a starter (choice of soup, I love the chicken and sweetcorn), some BBQ ribs (always good), and a three meal offering of chicken satay, sweet and sour chicken and beef in a sauce. Followed on by a choice of dessert (I always go for Black Beauty, it's delicious - lots of chocolate and ice-cream) and tea or coffee. It's great value for what you get. There are chicken balls (made from real chicken) and rice for the kids - but they are improving in being adventurous (my kids that is).
The staff are friendly and nice - some won't have great English, they try their best. They always try to seat you next to the window with a great view of the harbour, plus a great opportunity for people watching, if you're into that. It's kind of expensive, but everywhere is these days, but we still always go back there.
