29/10/2023: Wonderful meal, really enjoyed every course, taste, presentation, everything was perfect. The staff were warm, friendly, efficient, and very attentive. Love the decor and most certainly will be back.
05/10/2023: I went to this restaurant expecting average, and found exceptional. I hadn't heard of the place, and was only in Kilkee for a day, to revisit a town I had loved as a teenager and hadn't seen in 35 years. Pollock and Porter is extraordinary, and if I lived on the West Coast I'd want to eat there regularly. As it is, I'm going to have to revisit Kilkee frequently because this restaurant is worth the drive from Dublin.
The menu is concise, and presents a conundrum because they have an unusual take on many of their dishes. It forces you think carefully and perhaps stray from the choices you would ordinarily make. I was drawn to the Sea Bass, settled on the Duck breast and was rewarded for the choice. It arrived a perfectly cooked medium rare, not fatty at all, on a bed of red cabbage with a delicious jus in a small jug on the side. A large portion of extraordinarily good food. My girlfriend had the Wild Mushroom Risotto, and absolutely loved it. Rich and creamy, and alive with flavour.
I don't want to write a long winded review that bores anyone with the details, but what I will say is for those that love good food, this restaurant should be on your list. Have the starter, enjoy the bread and don't skip dessert. Try the creme broulee, you'll thank me later ;)
