Nancy’s Barn in Ballyliffin

I stopped in by accident because I was hungry after a hike. Little did I know… I was in for the best meal I’ve had since landing on the island. I had the chowder and chorizo bread with a Guinness (as recommended) and it was absolutely extraordinary, 10/10 recommend. It was so good that I got dessert which I usually don’t do. The chocolate almond cake is extraordinary. I literally pulled out my phone to write this review before I even finished it. So amazing

I’ve been here having breakfast multiple times and I’m still loving it. Strongly recommend the Bar Mouth, loaded with protein. The avocado spread is generous and the smoked salmon is delicious. If the bread is brown, it’ll be perfect. Love the ambiance too. I’m a loyal customer now.

I found Nancy’s Barn on Google Maps while looking for a place to have a late lunch after a day touring the Northern Irish Coast. We are on holiday from the USA and places like Nancy’s Barn are making our trip special. It’s a gem that’s off the beaten path and just down the road from Malin Head. The menu is creative and the chowder is definitely a star (with a rich history). The fish tacos were quite tasty and prepared perfectly - they go well with onion rings. And I really enjoyed the apple crumble to finish off the meal. The staff are friendly and fast. We got to meet Kieran (the owner) on the way out and that made our visit even better. He’s so energetic and nice and really proud of his restaurant. Do yourself a favor and stop here if you’re in the area.

Definitely worth adding to your Donegal itinerary. Great food, lovely staff. The chowder is a must!

When you announce you've been crowned World Champion of Seafood Chowder, expectations are high. Here, those expectations are far exceeded. The chowder is truly fantastic, so much so that we immediately ordered a second bowl. A must-try!
