A difficult review to write as we went twice in 2 consecutive days. The first time the order of wheaten bread came with 3 slices but the second visit 2 people ordered wheaten bread the first portion had 2 pieces and the 2nd person had to ask the server again as it never arrived to only receive a single piece. We also had to ask again for the bacon that was missing on our order of bacon and toast I'm not sure if it's the servers who portion it out but portions should be equal on each visit. If it wasn't for this then it would of been 5 stars rather than 3.
Just had an americano with double cream on the side and a rocky road. Sitting there in such a welcoming, cosy atmosphere is a real treat. No better place for a coffee. Looking forward to the cold weather when they light a real fire! Simon Calder was right to highlight this hidden gem.
Generally nice and very busy restaurant. Service was great, only I got the wrong beer served (Limeburner when I ordered Scraggy) - not the end of the world. Food was good but not as great as I actually expected. Chowder is very tasty but comes served in a thimble. Merely 3, 4 small pieces of fish in it. Fish & Chips then was good but not outstanding. Chips were acutally not great. They tasted undercooked and didnt have a nice texture to them. Would expect better for a place that blows its own trumpet like that. Did I enjoy my visit? Yes. Will I rush back in a hurry? No.
Wow!! Incredible food, great service, atmosphere and story. Waited 30 minutes with hungry kids and it was well worth it.
