Oar House in Dublin

Beautiful place, super fresh fish, and amazing desserts! The staff is friendly, helpful, and never intrusive. We'll definitely be back.

Very friendly staff and an authentic atmosphere. The oysters were plump and excellent (although they seemed a bit pricey at €3.50 each). The fish and chips... The fish was very good but completely mushy. The batter was soaked in oil like a sponge. It was really unpleasant. I'm giving the food 3 stars because the batter was awful, but the fish was good, the blue cheese sauce was excellent, and the fries were cooked twice (but still not exceptional). It's also a shame about the starter; we would have needed more bread to enjoy the sauce on the prawns (Buffalo Tiger Prawn, don't expect anything crispy), which was really good!

Oar House is where we ate in Howth. Close to the DART station and on the pier next to the harbor, we tried the famous Oar House Fish 'N' Chips and the crispy calamari. You can choose between a small or large portion. The calamari was delicious, and the fish and chips were good too, but we found the batter a bit heavy. It wasn't because it was greasy that it tasted good; it was because we weren't used to it. We ate the last piece with the sauces and without the batter, which we set aside. They had a large menu, and it was hard to choose. The place was obviously decorated with nautical motifs, and they even brought a bottle of water to the table without us asking, but they explained that it was tap water and free. The service was very friendly throughout, and the gratuity is included on the bill under the name "Gratuity."

The food was good. The service was also friendly and quick. I really liked the atmosphere.

The fish and chips were good, but not the best we've had. I was annoyed by the high service charge, which we weren't informed about in advance, and even when we asked, we weren't informed that they could have declined.

The mixed grill was delicious, would definitely recommend it. We absolutely loved the desert, perfect way to end the night.

Stopped in at The Oar House and the fish and chips were hands down the best I’ve had—perfectly crispy batter, fresh fish, and the chips were spot on. The mushy peas and tartar sauce were a great touch too. Cozy spot, friendly service, and right by the water—couldn’t ask for more. If you’re in Howth, this place is a must!
