Petronella in Kilkenny

Well located restaurant (Butter Slip). Warm atmosphere. Classic gastropub cuisine well done.

I was excited to go here after seeing good reviews from vegans. I had the vegan lasagne (which was the only vegan option on the lunch menu.) It was tasty although comes without cheese on top which is unusual. My husband got the vegetarian toasted sandwich (grand) soup and slice of the Guinness bread (he enjoyed these). We got tea afterwards and while it was served lovely on a little colourful tray unfortunately they don't have oat milk as an option only soy milk which is disappointing when even garages have oat milk these days.

Great spot for those occasions that sit between formal and casual. Went for dinner with my family, being over visiting my father and brother. The menu had a tasty vegetarian lasagne and a good vegan cauliflower steak. Everyone was well fed. Second time here and both have been commendable.

Absolutely fantastic. Petronella kindly accommodated us tonight with our last minute reservations for 4. Beautiful meal, we had the vegetarian lasagne and the rib of beef - both were exquisite. From the warm greeting on arrival, to being looked after throughout, the beautiful setting and ambience, it was an absolutely lovely experience. Our guests and us thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Petronella and we'll be back soon. Thanks all

Peaceful place, very well cooked and well presented dishes. Lots of flavors.

We had the sourdough/ courgette bruschetta (excellent), the pan fried hake (excellent) and the vegetable lasagna (very good). Service was top notch and prifessional. The atmosphere in this restaurant, from the setting on Butterslip Lane to the beautiful, old, clean, warm interior is among the best I have ever experienced. Not to be missed.

The restaurant easily stands on its own for great quality food, exceptional service and at a fair price. As a couple dining here it felt intimate and the experience felt special. History of Petronella was a quirk that drew us to the location, however it wasn’t until our dinner that we had the history of the premises also explained to us. Highly recommend Petronella.

We had an unforgettable dinner in the most beautiful historic setting. The signature brie dish was a standout—highly recommend! The potato and leek soup hit all the right notes, and my husband couldn't stop talking about his hake with bouillabaisse. I was equally delighted with my vegetarian entrée: a char-grilled cauliflower steak served with citrus couscous, pistachios, almonds, and a vibrant red pepper, black olive, and caper salsa. Without a doubt, this is the best restaurant in Kilkenny!
