Rare indeed. Simply the finest meal in my 76 years on this planet. Pierre our host and sommelier was the epitome of gracious and knowledgeable. As a wine geek he answered every question about our five wines in depth. We had 7 courses and 18 separate tastes. The base of the menu is seafood with South Indian spices. Chef Meeran is classically trained in London but in the last two years has added his expertise in Indian spices. The result is out of this world. We feel blessed that we were able to get a booking at the last minute. Our guide books said Kinsale was a foodie heaven. I concur. The trout main dish was smoked in South Indian spices with a heavenly sauce. The tasting menu changes daily as does the wine pairings to match the courses.

Interesting place! It is a bit expensive, but offers a really interesting culinary experience. I highly r if you ever find yourself in the area! Ireland does have a unique culture, but I love how adaptive they are to those who don’t drink. It’s a great treat.

Interesting fusion between Indian and Local cooking experience. Not everything perfect. They should push it limit a bit more

We had an exquisite dinner here. The flavours are amazing. Really appreciated the non alcoholic cocktail option. The most exciting dining experience we have had in some time, we will certainly return.

Rare Restaurant: A Rare Culinary Experience Rare Restaurant redefines dining, and my recent visit was a journey of flavors, textures, and exceptional hospitality. Here’s a glimpse of the unforgettable experience: First Course: Finger Food The meal began with fermented rice dumplings—an explosion of umami and texture that set the tone for the evening. Next came the cured trout, presented under a delicate beetroot jelly. From the first bite, it was a revelation—bright, bold, and playful, with a seamless interplay of flavors and textures. Chicken Malai The Chicken Malai was beautifully seasoned, with a thick, bold marinade that had just the right level of spice. While the dish was outstanding, I’d suggest a wine pairing with a bolder body to complement its richness. Turbot-Lobster-Coconut This dish was one of my absolute favorites—a masterful combination of silky textures and subtle flavors. The addition of lemongrass-infused mussels and tender pak choi added an impressive depth, tying the dish together in a truly memorable way. Venison The venison was so tender it could have been mistaken for dessert. Its texture and depth of flavor were nothing short of extraordinary. Desserts Just when I thought the experience couldn’t get any better, the desserts arrived. The saffron crème fraîche was luxurious, and the petit fours stole the show. The chocolate mousse infused with cardamom was a revelation—crunchy yet soft, with layers of flavor that I’ll be dreaming about for weeks. Non-Alcoholic Pairings A special mention goes to the non-alcoholic mocktail pairings. Each sip was a delightful surprise, crafted to elevate every course without overshadowing the dishes. The selection included a Blue Lagoon (probably), a Virgin Mary, a Pina Colada, and the best of all—a magical concoction of apple and nutmeg that was truly unforgettable. Exceptional Hospitality What truly set Rare Restaurant apart was the exceptional hospitality. We visited with our two children (ages 3 and 13), and the staff made us feel warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived. We were seated in a quiet area, allowing us to have a lovely time to ourselves while ensuring we didn’t disturb other diners. The thoughtful arrangement made the evening enjoyable for both the kids and us—truly a family-friendly yet elegant dining experience. This is only a tiny fraction of what Rare Restaurant has to offer. The food, the ambiance, and the overall experience cannot be fully captured in words. I highly encourage you to visit and immerse yourself in this culinary masterpiece. Go and see for yourself—you won’t be disappointed!

Lovely food and amazing staff. We were there last Friday and after the first course there was a power cut which did not at all take away from the experience nor the quality of the food or service. 👏👏👏
