What an amazing find in the town of Athlone! We were on a ladies retreat getaway for the weekend (without kids!) And this was suggested and it was absolutely the best place!
We had a group of 15 ish and the service was top notch. The manager and the lead waitress lady was very attentive. They told us too that there was a bigger group (foreign students) coming so told us where better to sit, in order to have more privacy. The food took a little while, but with our big group and other big group, the restaurant was filled!! We didn't care cos we were just having a great time! Menu choices were great and prices were good too. Our lead waitress (and i never asked for her name so sorry!) was a drink specialist and made some good drinks for us. And she distinctively remembers each person's order cos she made a b-line for the individual every time she brought a dish out! It's a great sign of being a great waitress :) The manager/owner (Peter) was very accommodating too when we have special requests for our group. Honestly I will come back to eat here even without the retreat!!! We were actually half planning to come back again during the retreat for a second meal but we ran out of time haha. Amazing place and people! There's a parking lot too, not huge, but definitely enough to get a space!
Very friendly atmosphere, dog friendly, staff are lovely, and you won't be disappointed with the food. Not only that but the environment itself has a load of history surrounding it. You'll find it hard to leave.
Second time coming back here honestly I had a burger. I believe it was one of those triples horse specials but it was very nice second time had that meat feast the sauce of the pesto was perfect and the cheese was not bad along with the toppings, but the dough on the pizza was literally falling apart and stiff… I do recommend this place but I recommend it with your expense, but it’s not bad. It’s not bad at all. Had a pretty good time.
Enjoy when you do, and I hope this review might make some improvements in the future.
Brilliant rustic decor, fitting of a Texan or western American feel. Food was tasty. We got the wings and spicy bag, both of which we really liked. Mash with the bangers and goujons was a bit cold though. Milkshake was yum. Kids meal free with adult meal was a nice touch for the purse.
