What an incredible experience! The Irish Coffee was unreal good! The story of Tom Crean was the highlight of my day!
Gary, another door will open. Never doubt the difference you made. Smile because it happened! 💚 Sending all the prayers, love, and good vibes.
Great traditional pub in lovely surroundings. The history of Tom Crean was brilliant to see and so well laid out throughout the bar. I got lost just reading all about his exploits all over again. The drink was great too!
My friend and I stopped by the South Pole Inn and had the vegetable soup—simple, warm, and comforting. Surrounded by photos and memorabilia of Antarctic explorer Tom Crean, it made the meal a memorable experience.
Great pub! good history lesson! Food was amazing. chowder and smoked salmon were split between the two of us both very good. But it was Rachel that got us out of a bit of a situation. We were able to get a taxi from inch beach but couldn’t not get one back. ( 6.5 km) We really didn’t want to walk at night. She made some calls and before I knew there was a ride for us back to where we were staying at inch beach. We really appreciate her taking the time to make sure we got back. We both appreciate your kindness.Great memories! Thank you.
Came because an artist I follow on IG recommend it (Mike McLaughlin, Mike's Artworks...art pictured). Was pretty good. The lamb tasted a bit different compared to other places. Not certain if it was a seasoning or what. Lovely area and decor. Nice little backyard where people were camping by a stream. Sept 3 2024.
You just don't expect to find such fine food in a small village in Ireland. We found lots, however, and this one was one of the best. We had hiked all day and were truly hungry. This was a real treat. One of us had Guinness and leek sausages which were pronounced "amazing." I had kedgeree which is smoked salmon in a cream sauce with mushrooms. It was delicious. We split a warm brownie and ice cream for dessert. The pub is charming inside covered with memorabilia from the harrowing Shackleton Expedition to the South Pole. Tom Crean, a member of the heroic crew, bought this pub afterwards. The staff did not rush us as we settled down to read some of the books that are in the pub about the expedition and Tom Crean. This is WELL worth a stop. For those who have the time, there is a Tom Crean walking tour. We did not do it as we were hiking the Dingle Way and had to move on the next day.
This is definitely one of a kind. Very atmospheric in the main pub. Loads of stuff about Tom Crean who I admit I had never heard of. We sat at a high table next to the bar and were very well served. The fish and chips were excellent. Desserts though were not as good- apple pie needs to be hot and the cheesecake was way too sweet.
08/11/2025: Was redirected to patcheens after attempting foleys which stopped food for the season. Very glad it came recommended so we didnt have yo go all the way into dingle proper for a meal. Great cozy atmosphere, some table games for kids, tvs around to show the game, delicious pizza and wings! And top notch service 👌 you can also carry out cans as they have a off license attached. Tucked away in a sleepy quiet town but very much worth a stop in if looking for good atmosphere and delicious grub
27/08/2025: A great pub to add to your list to visit in anascaul, lovely food on offer and good quirky decor. Not as big as some but plenty of seating areas.
