I would highly recommend a visit. It was extremely interesting. The amount of historical and personal items in the house is really unique. Our tour guide Ella was excellent. I really felt like I was going back in time. I was sorry when the tour was over. There is a lovely cafe where we had our lunch. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. You can also visit the Famine Centre and walled garden so it is a full day out. Great value.

This is definitely a 'must' visit if in the area. We booked the house tour in advance. The famine museum is really well documented and visually presented. After buying the property, and finding stashes of documents relating to the famine and 'deportation' of tenants (which was cheaper than paying for them in a workhouse !!) It was decided to create this museum. The house is a seperate story. It brings you up to the 1980s and the last resident living here. The house is as it was left, decor, furniture, crockery, paintings etc. Guided tour only. Well worth buying into. My only 'not so positive' comment about the whole experience (which is very positive) is that there were too many people on the tour. In small rooms, with folk not being able to see everything etc. Brilliant tour guide though. Knowledgeable and friendly. Then there's a woodland walk, lovely. And a sizeable walled garden, again lovely. No height barrier, lots of parking area. Little gift area/cafe/toilets etc. Very reasonably priced too. Well worth a visit.

Three of us really enjoyed the house and the famine museum. We took the tour of the Palladian house with Ella and she proved very personable and well informed. The contents of the house are impressive given that they were all left in place by the last occupant who was a member of the original landowner family. We then visited the famine museum and the contrast was stark. The plight of Ireland during the famine was awful and its causes very well explained. We were all deeply moved and strongly recommend.

If this is not on your list of things to do but you are in the area- add it. Really interesting and moving exhibit.

A tour of the main house was worth it, the guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. House isn't particularly large or fancy compared to some. Gardens are very pleasant for a stroll. Museum was interesting.

We visited the lovely walled garden today with our dogs. We only intended to stop there briefly for a rest stop but a glimpse of the gardens tempted us in. And how beautiful a place it is; we were entranced. Will definitely be back to visit the house and museum. There's lots of work ongoing which is wonderful to see; the place is a tribute to all involved. And the staff were just lovely too.

Wonderful to see this historic site and hear it's history. Very nice café and food services too. Well worth a visit!
