Visited here mid week in July and bought tickets without pre ordering on-line. The place wasn't very busy though there was about 20 people on our guided tour. We really enjoyed the tour of the house, it was fantastic to see all the old original artefacts and the rooms etc. The gardens were also nice to walk in. Our tour guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and the tour lasted about an hour. Well worth doing.

Must visit if you are interested in Irish history. Interactive renewed museum gives structured info about the famine in local area and in overall Ireland. Sad numbers, but people must learn this lesson. There's very interesting lord's mansion to visit too and have a look to different side of Irish life that time. And 2 gardens: fairy garden (more natural and wild) and fruirs-flowers garden in fancy style. Worth visiting! But check time and availability of mansion tours on website.

Highly recommended. Anyone who wants to understand Ireland cannot miss Strokestown. A guided tour of Strokestown House makes the stark contrast between the ruling elite of that time and the Irish people almost tangible.

Wonderful place. Very educational. Beautiful house and walled garden. Beautiful nature trail. Museum will leave you smarter and sadder… the plight of these tenant farmers and the walk from Strokestown to Dublin to board famine ships… what misery… Worth the trip from anywhere

Well worth a visit to (a) see the main house, which is still being renovated, and (b) learn about the famine and its aftermath. One aspect that fascinated me was the societal structure that existed during the famine. Go and see it.

A lot if interesting information about the plight of the Irish people and how their gentry handled the situation. Walking through the buildings tells the story in chronological order. Very moving. Lots to read. Excellent café facilities and nice little gift shop
