Another of a dying breed....a proper pub. Good staff, good pints and good atmosphere. We'd a good few on us when we arrived but once the barman realised we were ok no problem. Would've stayed longer but we were tired!

25/07/2026: Staff are great, very friendly and helpful. We were there as part of an event with a set menu and can't really say about ” regular menu" but what we had was lovely. Would happily visit again when we're in Athlone.

The Dark Horse Bar & Kitchen

24/09/2026: A fairly large pub with an extensive menu. There are pool tables upstairs. Food isn't served everywhere, but you can order drinks to enjoy at the pool table. The staff gives you a very friendly welcome at the entrance and promptly shows you to a table. Everyone on the team is knowledgeable about the daily specials and can also provide information about all the other dishes on the menu. Despite the pub being relatively busy, the wait for food is quite short. All the food is fresh and homemade. Definitely recommended for a visit to Athlone.
