Had a lovely gluten free lunch today in the Monksland cafe. The staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Mary! Would recommend, especially for coeliacs as there is plenty of choice. Thank you Mary and all the staff!

The Dark Horse Bar & Kitchen

24/09/2026: A fairly large pub with an extensive menu. There are pool tables upstairs. Food isn't served everywhere, but you can order drinks to enjoy at the pool table. The staff gives you a very friendly welcome at the entrance and promptly shows you to a table. Everyone on the team is knowledgeable about the daily specials and can also provide information about all the other dishes on the menu. Despite the pub being relatively busy, the wait for food is quite short. All the food is fresh and homemade. Definitely recommended for a visit to Athlone.
