The Dark Horse Bar & Kitchen in Athlone

A fairly large pub with an extensive menu. There are pool tables upstairs. Food isn't served everywhere, but you can order drinks to enjoy at the pool table. The staff gives you a very friendly welcome at the entrance and promptly shows you to a table. Everyone on the team is knowledgeable about the daily specials and can also provide information about all the other dishes on the menu. Despite the pub being relatively busy, the wait for food is quite short. All the food is fresh and homemade. Definitely recommended for a visit to Athlone.

Class place with delicious food and professional staff x

Really nice sports bar in Athlone. Great food and service. I had the Jack Daniels burger. They give a ton of chips/fries, and they were really good. We also tried the dirty fries with pulled pork, cheese, jalapeño - great!

Chicken wings 10/10, mozzarella sticks are very good too.

Had a really lovely experience here! The atmosphere was great from the moment we arrived — relaxed, welcoming and perfect for spending an evening with friends or having a nice dinner and drinks. The staff were absolutely fantastic — friendly, attentive and professional without being overbearing. Everyone was very helpful and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout the evening. The food was delicious and nicely presented, with everything tasting fresh and well prepared. There was also a great selection of drinks, especially the choice of beers and cocktails. Everything we ordered was really enjoyable. The place itself has a great atmosphere, with a nice balance between being lively and still comfortable enough to sit and have a conversation. You can tell that the staff put a lot of effort into making sure customers have a good experience. Overall, we had a great evening and would definitely come back again. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for good food, friendly service, a great atmosphere and a good selection of drinks!

Good food, friendly efficient service and reasonably priced. My daughter tells me the cocktails are excellent. We'll definitely be back.

Food is consistently lovely and the portions are plentiful - especially the starters. I got the jack Daniels burger with dirty fries on the side and had to be rolled out.

Fabulous bar, great atmosphere. Its a busy spot, staff do be rushed and busy but they are attentive and get the job done. Chicken wings are top notch
