The Cat & Cage in Dublin

Quintessential Irish pub with well prepared food. Best pub meal of our trip!

Lovely pub, well worth a visit for hearty meals and fresh pints. The fish and chips we had were delicious, and the fries were great too. Staff were attentive and very friendly. A few cool touches stood out: they host event nights, game parties, and even offer a room for recording podcasts — which is pretty unique. Also, the payment system is handy: just scan the QR code on your receipt to pay in full or split the bill. We’ll definitely be back to try more pints and explore their beer selection!

El gato y la jaula Nos encontramos con Cat & Cage ya que estaba situado a pocos minutos a pie de nuestro hotel, el Skylon Hotel en la zona de Drumcondra de Dublín. Inicialmente fuimos atraídos por su nombre (el marketing funciona en nosotros, jajaja) y luego "vendimos" con sus increíbles opciones veganas que suenan. Hasta que investigamos para escribir este post, no nos habíamos dado cuenta de que retrocedíamos a cuatro siglos de historia que datan de 1690 , ¡guau, quién iba a saber! ! Era la cena del jueves por la noche y el lugar estaba saltando (si el pub se llamara "The Bunny & the Cage" eso haría un juego de palabras divertido pero ahhhh, divago...). Si bien todo estuvo excelente, el mejor artículo de la noche fueron los Aros de Cebolla Rebozados de Cerveza con Chipotle Mayo. Para una comida frita, estos sabían increíblemente ligero y las cebollas sabían muy fresca! La pizza Funghi ofrece una sensación en la boca abundante y variada con cada bocado, con muchos sabores y texturas entre la mezcla de hongos salvajes, las espinacas, las migas de pistacho y el queso mozzarella. Ambos acordamos que entre la corteza y el queso, la pizza podría haberse beneficiado de un par de minutos adicionales de tiempo de horno, pero eso no disuadió de que esta es una opción increíble! La hamburguesa fue igualmente satisfactoria con una generosa porción de deliciosas patatas fritas cortadas en casa (patatas fritas, pero sé que conoces eso jajaja). Estábamos hambrientos y realmente jonesing para probar todas las opciones que hicimos ... pero honestamente, o la opción de pizza o hamburguesa probablemente sería suficiente para dos personas razonables ... no tan glotona! Si vives en Dublín y no has estado o estás de visita, de cualquier manera... Cat & Cage necesita estar en su corta lista de lugares para comer!

We happened upon Cat & Cage as it was located within a minutes walk from our hotel, the Skylon Hotel in the Drumcondra area of Dublin.We were initially drawn in by their name (marketing works on us, lol) and then "sold" with their amazing sounding vegan options. Until researching to write this post, we hadn't realized we were walking back into four centuries of history dating back to 1690, wow, who knew!! It was dinner on Thursday night and the place was hopping (if the pub were named "The Bunny & the Cage" that would make a funny pun but ahhhh, I digress...). While everything was excellent, the best item of the evening was the Beer Battered Onion Rings with Chipotle Mayo. For a fried food, these tasted incredibly light and the onions tasted very fresh! The Funghi Pizza offered a hearty and varied mouthfeel with each bite, with lots of flavors and textures between the wild mushroom mix, the spinach, pistachio crumbles, and mozzarella cheese! We both agreed that between the crust and the cheese, the pizza could have benefited from an additional couple of minutes of oven time but that didn't deter from this being an amazing option! The burger was equally satisfying with a generous portion of delicious house cut chips (fries, but I know you know that lol). We were hungry and really jonesing to try all of the options that we did .. but honestly, either the pizza or burger option would likely be enough for two reasonable .. not so gluttonous people! If you live in Dublin and haven't been or you're visiting, either way .. Cat & Cage needs to be on your short list of places to eat!

really lovely pub, the staff were so friendly and kind. the outdoor chairs get taken in at 10 which is understandable but also not the most ideal situation, but i would still absolutely recommend

Gran comida y gran personal. Gracias Aysa por cuidarnos tan bien durante los 30 de mi hija. Los platos son los mejores que hemos tenido que consisten en 3 pizzas grandes y patatas fritas. Bolas de queso y los mejores nachos de la historia. Gracias a todos
