The Courtyard on Sober Lane in Cork

An amazing experience in an industry that can be complacent. Lovely venue with a high end vibe, even better when a sunny afternoon in May. Tyrone the manager, is an old school publican who wants his clientele to have an experience. If you don't visit this place on your trip, you're missing an open space area that caters for sun, shade and good staff.

Room for improvement: Guy working at the door was great, got us at a table straight away. We were told to order drinks at the bar and then we be able to order food. We got our drinks (there was 7 staff behind the bar and only one card machine, after each of them poured their drinks they were fighting over the card machine to take payment for the orders) We waited for an hour before grabbing attention of the waitress to order food . Ordered our food and asked for drinks as well, only because we saw other tables having their served. The waitress wasn’t sure so she went away to ask and came back to tell us that’s it’s not possible and that we had to get them at the bar. We didn’t mind as much since we were doing from the start. After getting another round of drinks and sitting back at the table we proceeded to see other tables be served their drinks. We waited 40 minutes only for the table next to us (that put in their order after us) get their food served before us, that’s when we got the attention of another waitress to ask about our order only to be told that it was never taken in the end. We were offered to take our order there and then and it be done as priority but at that stage we were okay, so we decided to finish our drinks and leave. Just before we left the guy that was working at the door came over and said it must have been miscommunication and explained that the waitress should have taken the payment straight away. This is the reason the review isn’t lower star rating.

Large beer garden, designed for large numbers, with a big screen showing football. Only ate chips - but they were lovely, and plenty for two.

What an odd place…drinks must be bought at the bar but not the food. Service was spotty at best, it was almost like we were an inconvenience. Who runs out of lettuce? Sorry but tourist drop LOTS of $ into your economy are happy to do it… making them confused isn’t welcoming. Food was very tasty and the crowd around us was lively.

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to the manager who was working at the Courtyard at Sober Lane yesterday. It was absolutely packed thanks to the rare sunny weather, but he still took the time to look after us really well. When we arrived, there were only indoor seats left, but he managed to squeeze us in outside, which was much appreciated. Things got so busy at one point that the kitchen had to close for an hour, but he still took our order, which honestly saved the day 🍕🍻. All of that more than made up for the fact that he thought we were the retirement party group… we’ll try not to take it personally!! 🤣

We just treated ourselves to two beers and soaked up the atmosphere. Was fun.

Nice staff, bit of a weak atmosphere for a friday night. Drinks fairly expensive too. A nice venue though
