The Farmgate Cafe in Cork

Had a little trouble finding the place and went through the back door. I’ve included a picture of the entrance so you don’t make the same mistake. The staff was friendly about me going the wrong way. I started with the soup of the day, vegetable soup, and went on to have supreme chicken. Both tasted fresh and were delicious. The service was excellent and fast for a large number of people. There was not a table available.

Went for lunch. Lovely food and good atmosphere.

Found everything to be as good as ever, especially the food. Service was excellent too as the staff dealt with everything that was thrown at them - my friends are odd - with aplomb. Unavoidable Christmas hustle and bustle; the 'inner' section is quieter and warmer if you manage to get in there.

Very popular, very good. Friendly staff. Great views of the English Market.

When the French couple at the table next to you are remarking how good the food is and yours is delicious as well that's enough.

Pate was great with the red onion, recommended if you love pate!

I’ve dined here a few times and while they offer gluten free options, they are not safe for coeliacs. The bread is gluten free but baked in a “normal” bakery, meaning cross contamination makes it not safe for coeliacs. I tried again recently and had the chicken and lemon sauce. It was nice, though the sauce was cold, and while staff(Vicky) went to great lengths to make sure it was safe for me to eat, I still was sick. I’m afraid I couldn’t eat here again, as even though Vicky was fantastic and went to lengths to make sure my food was gluten free, there is obviously levels of cross contamination in the kitchen that means its not safe for coeliacs.

Farmgate is a restaurant located on the first floor of the English market, the main one in Cork, the second largest city in Ireland. We visited the market and we decided to go to have breakfast in this restaurant, where we enjoyed a traditional Irish breakfast with fried eggs, bacon, sausages, black pudding and toast. Also, I drank a cappuccino. From the terrace of the restaurant, you can see very nice views of the market. (See also The English Market)
