We love this place, it is THE PLACE to stay in Killybegs and we have stayed here three times now. The owners are incredibly friendly, generous, and accommodatingโ€”I won't go into how we found this out, but suffice it to say it rekindled our belief in human kindness and the generosity of the Donegal people in general. Super central location adjacent to the scenic port and great food both in the Fleet Inn itself and from The Boathouse (and sibling business The Fish Shack) next door. Personally, I think the Fleet Inn's chowder is a little more sophisticated than The Boathouse's! There's a pub/restaurant area on the ground floor where you can obtain the aforementioned chowder, other dishes from the sea and the land, plus all manner of beverages and it is a popular place with locals, and with the mariners when they are in port. Across the road is the excellent Wild Atlantic Crafts which showcases the work of local arts and crafts people.

Stayed for a night after visiting Slieve League. Food was great and staff were very welcoming and friendly. Location is very convenient and close to some cafes and shopping. Great value for the money. Stairs may be difficult for people with mobility challenges but they are very upfront about this when booking. Would gladly stay again.

Vegan options could be improved, I grabbed food before we got here as nothing sounded too interesting but everyone else loved their food. Great atmosphere, service and good live music!

Tara Hotel

07/04/2025: Well done to Robert on his absolutly amazing refurb of the Tara Hotel. The wow factor and some. Roberts' vision and direction, with the support of his dedicated manager Dymphna and all the staff, has come alive like a magical nautical and almost gilded visual magnificence. There is something to ooh and AHH about in every nook and cranny. The attention to detail from the outer facade to the toilet facilities is a sight to behold. The menu selection plentiful and anyone who has visited their sister pub The Rusty Mackerel 'In-Thru', can expect the same award winning service, and I am sure that The Tara will be as successful during awards season as The Rustys' array of successful endeavours. The locally sourced produce guarantees fresh and flavourful mouthwatering nourishment, and of course the seafood is sensational. I highly recommend the prawn and monkfish gratin. A special mention for the seaweed brown bread and the onion rings, those bad boys are out of this world. The chicken and chorizo pasta is as fine as you'd get in any Italian eatery. I've been eating in the Tara for many a year now and my most recent visit was like stepping into a brand new world. I can imagine that this place is going to cement Killybegs on the foodies map, in a town with a lot of culinary masterpieces, The Tara literally and figuratively shines through ๐ŸŒŸ Best of luck to Robert, Dymphna and team, wishing you every success โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒŸ
