The Grattan in Waterford

Delicious and generous portions, incredibly friendly staff. We're staying in Waterford for a year and we'll be going back several times throughout the year! I highly recommend the bacon-cabbage.

The Grattan Bar in Waterford is an absolute gem. The food was fantastic — full of flavour and had that real home-cooked feeling you rarely find these days. The service was excellent, and we were served by the lovely couple who own the place — they couldn’t have been friendlier or more welcoming. They were also incredibly accommodating, even allowing us to bring our dog inside for dinner in a separate room — something that’s very hard to find. And the Guinness — absolutely top class! Creamy, smooth, and without that bitter aftertaste you get in many other bars. One of the nicest pints I’ve had in Ireland. Overall, one of the best spots for bar food and a proper pint — warm atmosphere, amazing hosts, and delicious food. Highly recommended!

The traditional Irish pub food are amazing together with a pint of guiness. Lovely couple owners.

Having read other reviews decided to try this bar for a bite to eat. Was not disappointed. The menu might not be the most extensive but could not complain about anything and one of our party was coeliac and no problem for the chef. Excellent

The welcome and service were truly excellent: the staff is warm, attentive, and very kind to the children. The atmosphere is friendly, and you immediately feel at ease. Very nice restaurant, super friendly and delicious Irish food.

What a charming place! My family and I came here in September 2025. We had a wonderful time! We arrived at noon and we were welcomed by the owner. He was so friendly and made our meal so enjoyable. He chatted with us during our visit. His partner arrived later and she was every bit as friendly. The food was very delicious. There were 7 of us and many of us ordered the beef stew. It was soooo good. The burger was also very tasty. I highly recommend visiting here in Waterford. It was definitely the highlight of our trip through Ireland.

At the Grattan Bar we had a very nice surprise: the owners decided to serve a special Brazilian feijoada. The dish was offered in two options: • small portion for €14, still very generous; • large portion for €18, perfect for bigger appetites. I tried the small one and it was more than enough — tasty, filling, and made with good quality ingredients. The price was fair and honest, really worth it. The owners are very friendly, always smiling and welcoming. They had this great idea to bring a bit of Brazil to Waterford, and they also mentioned that they plan to prepare other Brazilian dishes in the future. The only thing I would suggest is adding some Brazilian music, to make the atmosphere even more authentic. Overall, it was a great experience that I truly recommend, especially for Brazilians living nearby who want to enjoy the taste of home. 🇧🇷

My wife and I stopped in for dinner and drinks and had an excellent time. The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced. We shared the beef roast which was exceptional. We had dinner at a 5 star restaurant in Dublin the evening prior and the beef roast we had here was the highlight of our trip. The staff were very friendly and the place was very clean.
