The Grattan in Waterford

After getting off the train we stopped in for a quick lunch before exploring the city. The food was great and service even better.

Best fish and chips over a week long road trip

This is the kind of place that makes a visit to Ireland special. You would never pick it out from any other pub on the outside, but we could tell from the reviews there was something special happening at the Grattan. We were greeted by Melisa, the owner, who welcomed the 8 of us (including 4 under 4!) like family. It’s a no frills spot where the hospitality comes first. The food is simple but authentic, and the pints are poured with care. Thanks for making this an unexpected highlight of our trip.

We had a wonderful experience at Grattan. We are visiting Waterford and stopped in for dinner based on Google reviews. Martha greeted and served us. We felt like family as soon as we walked through the door. She made recommendations on the menu and even offered to make a slightly smaller portion of fish and chips for our daughter. The food was great. I ordered the beef burger and it was hand made, not frozen. Best burger I’ve had in a while. My daughter got the fish and chips and it was good. Lightly breaded and not too greasy. My wife ordered the traditional Irish bacon and cabbage dinner. Thick bacon/ham, over mashed potatoes and cabbage with a cream sauce. It was amazing. The food, service and hospitality were all great and we’d love to visit again.

Having spent a few days in Waterford city last weekend,my wife and I discovered the Grattan Bistro Bar…..Lovely, polite and efficient service,food is better than restaurant quality,Chris is super both behind and in front of the bar,a big shout out to both Martha and Chris who made both myself and my wife feel totally welcome

Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had and a wonderful pint. Martha was so friendly I thought she was going to invite us to move in! Wish I could’ve had a full night here and not just lunch.

Can’t recommend this place enough! We came in after arriving on a rainy evening in Waterford and we left very impressed. The food and service were both incredible, and Martha made us feel right at home. Fantastic bar and restaurant!

Very nice roast dinners (ham and turkey, and beef), fish and chips, and Guinness.

A large group of us visited the Grattan for dinner and we had a great time! The staff were so friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered the lasagna and it was so tasty! The portion sizes were great too. I’d definitely recommend and will return if I am in Waterford again ☺️
