The Half Barrel in Whitegate

I had a huge succulent burger. Sticky toffee pudding. The chicken burger is excellent too. Creme brule is creamy and crunchy. House Merlot is very good.

I had a great roast beef dinner with all the trimmings; mash, turnip, carrots, broccoli, gravey and Yorkshire pudding. The beef was meltingly tender and tasty. Despite being full I managed a fruit crumble with custard and cream for dessert and it was delicious too. It's a lovely cosy pub with great service.

Food: I've never had a better roast dinner in my life. Beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables. I wish I took a better pic. Service: Andy, the bartender, is among the best bartenders ever. He's friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. My drink was never empty unless by choice. The food came with perfect timing. I'm amazed at the quality and quick service, a rare combination. Atmosphere: Friendly, safe, interactive. The first night, for example, an older gentleman got down from his bar stool to leave, and seemed surprised to see three female strangers there (us). After a quick look of surprise, he looked me in the eye, instantly broke into a verse of a song, then went out the door. The bathrooms were immaculate as well!

Lovely food, attentive staff, great atmosphere, very busy restaurant. Would visit again. 5 stars highly recommended this pub

Great food in terms of both quality and value for money. Stop at an Irish pub, nice staff and ambience and not just the classic pub food. Highly recommended!!!

A nice little country pub with awesome food ( I had beer battered cod that was just amazing) Helpful waitress. Lots of parking to the rear. On a bus route so if you want you can leave the car at home. Clean and tidy and that open fire when lit must kick out some heat. Will be back for sure.

This is a great pub, very friendly folk running it and the chowder/chips had us back 3 times :)
