The Half Barrel in Whitegate

Beautiful meal today in The Half Barrel. A party of three, we had roast beef on a bed of creamy mash, broccoli spears and root veg with a rich gravy. Bacon and cabbage with spuds. And parsley sauce, done beautifully. A farmhouse burger and chips that was massive . Desserts were A bailey's cheesecake with ice cream and cream, a rubarb crumble and custard, and a creme brule. From the location, to the staff, to the food and atmosphere it was an easy 5 stars. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was top notch compliments to the chef. Served tinley and presented wonderfully. Big portions. I could not fault the lovely experience. Three main courses, three desserts, three cokes and two vodkas for €95 euro. Excellent value. We will definitely be back.

Food is top notch, beer variety and temperature is spot on, service is quite good as well. Great little place in Whitegate, two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Food was delicious but the beef was very tough and hard to cut but was very nice.

We brought US friends here for lunch last Friday. There had been a wedding party that filled the place. There was a table available for us. The waitress could not have been more attentive. The food was Fabulous!!!!! Fish n chips, shrimp scampi, seafood chowder. All delicious!!!! A lovely fire going to warm the place in welcome. Turns out going back Thursday. Can't wait!!!!

A very nice cozy pub. The food is highly recommended, rarely eaten so well in Ireland. We had dinner there on Christmas Eve and were so happy that we often ordered a table there. Live music on the weekends. Thank you for allowing us to spend a few evenings with you. greetings from Germany

This is a gem of a place . A local well kept secret and no wonder , because it's top class when it comes to food . A great menu with lots of choices all prepared to the highest standard. Great value for money and large portion sizes .A lovely atmosphere in both the bar and the dining area and the staff couldn't be more helpful . I will return again and again . Thank you . Gerry..

A great place good food in decant serving sizes. The staff are friendly and the deserts are delicious. Parking space round the back. It is wheelchair friendly

We've gotten takeaway from here twice. The first time it was very bad, the curry was cold and very watery, barely edible. They were very busy that evening. We put the order in ahead of time and when we arrived to collect they said it would be another 25 mins. It would have been nice if they rang to tell us that so we weren't waiting down there so long. We ordered again recently and it was better, no delay in picking up the food. We got a burger and the cordon bleu, both were good. I'm not sure if I'd try the takeaway again and I definitely won't get the curry.

Stopped in for a quick bite today during a busy period for the staff. Ordered the Seafood chowder & a coffee both of which were absolutely delicious and came out of the kitchen in record time, the service was also great and staff couldn’t have been more helpful, coupled with a welcoming and warm atmosphere.

Got a fab take away , late order too , nice menu great to have a service for late evening option to order yes delighted witn this place very accommadating nice staff who answered the phone yes great to have this place in rurual area well done
