The Hideout in Kilcullen

Lovely food and great service but it was very quiet for a Friday night.

Stopped at Hideout in Kilcullen on the way back from a long trip before heading into Dublin, and I’m really glad I did. It popped up on Google as an option in Kilcullen town, and it’s only about a minute off the motorway - super easy to find, right in the centre, with free parking nearby, next to church 🙏 The food was exceptional, fresh and full of flavour, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming after a long drive. The staff were very friendly and looked after us really well. This will definitely be my go-to stop when I’m passing through the area again. Highly recommended!

We went out for a Valentine’s Day dinner after making a reservation in advance. We were assured by email that there would be a special Valentine’s menu. However, when we arrived, it turned out that there were only Valentine’s-themed drinks available. We ordered food à la carte. Everything was delicious and perfectly seasoned. The desserts were excellent, and the service was very friendly. We also ordered additional beers, but unfortunately they never arrived. We had to place the order again with another staff member.

The food is delicious and plentiful. What makes this restaurant a highly recommended place, is the staff. I can’t praise them enough. They are beyond friendly and obliging. It is so lovely to be treated so nicely while out for a meal. I would drive out of my way to come here again.

It’s a very cosy restaurant, I called for nachos, a prawn sizzler and churros for dessert. The portion is really good. If you are around Kilcullen give this place a try.

Summary - Very overpriced average food, small portions, nice staff but extremely slow. Cameras in toilets feels like an invasion of privacy. Won't return. Was passing through yesterday afternoon and decided to pop in for lunch, we fancied soup and sandwiches but were told sandwiches aren't served after 3pm (online menu state's sandwiches until 4pm, we arrived approximately 3.30pm) so we ordered from the main menu. Four of us got loaded fries, Louisiana and salt and chilli, unfortunately they were small portions of tasteless (freezer to fryer) chicken and chips dressed up at an extortionate price of €16.95 each. Pizza was nice though. Smash burger overpriced for what was received. Staff were friendly but exceptionally slow and not attentive at all, we had to keep getting up to go look for them. We weren't offered a dessert menu and had to find someone to ask for tea. Disappointingly there is cctv in the toilets which I feel is a breach of privacy, especially concerning when young children are using these facilities. I didn't see a sign stating cctv but apparently it's at the hand dryer in the men's toilets, I'm assuming it's in the same spot in the ladies but since the hand dryer is out of order I didn't see it. The ladies could do with a good deep clean, one sink was out of order and as mentioned so was the hand dryer. (Edited) Response to reply - As previously said we were passing through and didn't know we needed a reservation, afterall it's just a pub serving food not a Michelin star restaurant, we would have been quite happy to be refused seating and we would have went elsewhere. The pub was half empty when we arrived and we were seated in the bar at different tables, not ideal as a group. We didn't "remain unhappy", once we figured out where to sit we were quite content. The barman was superb however he wasn't taking food orders so obviously I was referring to the waiting staff and it seemed like they completely forgot about us. As regards to the sandwiches, your website states 4pm so clearly it's not updated. We requested them before 4pm, a member of staff asked the kitchen staff who said they finished at 3pm. I suggest you update your website to avoid confusion. I'm sorry I upset you by highlighting the use of cctv in the toilets but I genuinely feel it's a breach of privacy, regardless of where it's located. I don't agree there is clear signage as I didn't notice it but I did notice the A4 page 'Out of order - do not use' signs, perhaps if the cctv signs were similar I would have seen them. I also think the signage should be visible upon entry not after using the toilet stalls and the camera should be placed lower not above the toilet stalls height. I stand by my review, it was our experience on that day unfortunately.
