Standard chipper. Being the only chipper around for miles they have potential to be so much better. Right beside the camp site so easy access from there and the beach. Super busy, but that’s because it’s the only takeaway place around.

We were on holiday for a week on Achill and went on a search for the best food on the island. Once we tried The Islander, everyone in the family just wanted to go back again and again. And you can! The menu has so much variety, we could have spent a month there trying new things. One of our favourites was Alex's Argentine Beef Burger - Alex, you're a genius. So, the food's great, it's great value for money and service is fast and friendly. If the owners ever fancy expanding the business towards Ulster, you’ve already got eager customers waiting in Monaghan!!

Our favourite go-to take out, and we regularly drive out of our way to get to it. The food is excellent; fish is fresh and delicious, I have no idea how they make their fries but they are literally the best you will find anywhere, crispy on the outside but light and fluffy inside. Superb burgers and pizzas. Add to that the fast service, and two of the nicest people you can hope to meet (Pat & Alejo), and you have an absolute gem of a place. We’ve been on Achill for 6 weeks and one of the things we are going to miss most are these two guys and their superb eateries (Aleph by Megs in Achill Sound also under the same owners). If you are on or near Achill Island, it’s a must, the cafe in Achill Sound for breakfast or lunch, or the Islander for an excellent take out dinner.

Best fish tacos on the island. Pizza amazing too. Great staff. Excellent service & very accommodating to people with special needs. We’ll definitely return on our next visit from Cork

UPDATED June 2024. This regular staple of Achill has changed owners & upgraded their menus. And what an upgrade it is! The Argentine Burgers are utterly unique - superb flavour, grilled to perfection & accompanied with chips that are even more outstanding. The chips are clearly fried in some special secret ingredient that the Proprietor flatly refused to share 🤐😉! We did NOT try the fish but it has to be stated that these folks Argentine burgers are absolutely the finest our family and friends (party of 6) had ever tasted. Highly recommended.
