The Mad Monk by Quinlans in Killarney

A lovely seafood meal in the centre of Killarney. Booking online was very easy, we reserved very quickly. We were greeted nicely and shown to a table upstairs. The place is spotless, and style is contemporary. The kitchen is open so diners downstairs can see I to it A good menu with lots of choice. We ordered the Seafood Chowder and Squid starters and they arrived within a minute or two. Both were delicious, nicely presented, generous in size and piping hot. The chowder was full of prawns, mussels and fish. A lovely silky creamy soup enveloped them. The mains were delivered to us within a couple of minutes of finishing our starters. We ordered Cromane Mussels and Sea Bass fillets in Squid Ink Risotto with shrimps and Pistachio Dukkah. Both again, were piping hot, generous in their size and beautifully presented. Both were absolutely delicious. Faultless cooking. Wine accompanying the meal was lovely, and service was friendly and efficient. Our only criticism would be the speed we were served at. Starters arrived bed within seconds, and mains as soon as starter plates were taken away. A gap of a few minutes between courses would have been nice. All that said, it was a fabulous meal, we'd highly recommend the place and happily eat there again. Faultless cooking, beautiful food.

Amazing gluten free options. My husband who is coeliac and I shared 4 gf starters and a side of chips. Excellent knowledge of gluten free. Nothing an issue. One of the best meals we have shared.

Fish is really tricky to cook properly and they did it perfectly.

A more modern bistro style which was a welcome change from the more traditional establishments. Good value for the quality and quantity of seafood in each dish.

Good seafood dishes, friendly and attentive service. Prices are average, but the ingredients are of good quality.

Fresh oysters, haddock and crab claws. A real seafood treat. My partner did say the bread with her crab could have been fresher, but the quantity of claws made up for that. A little cramped in the dining space, otherwise it would have been 5 stars across the board. We were still able to have a private enough chat.
