The Old Thatch in Killeagh

To call the seafood chowder good would be an insult. I generally don’t have any significant reaction to food, but I was taken aback by how incredible the chowder was. So good in fact, I actually had to come back later that same day for another serving. Do yourself a favor and stop by for a big bowl and a pint. (The serving size was impressive too)

Food was definitely below par but the pub itself was very good 👍 Had the steak which was OK ish , but re heated chips and chewy steak wasn't to be expected for almost €30 below pic are my chips V my partners . Her's were fresh where mine were reheated

Gone down hill. Did it change ownership ? Staff are still lovely and it has a welcoming atmosphere. Food wise has definitely gone down hill. We visited twice in January going to Cork Airport. On the way down my husband had the turkey which he said was good. I had the soup and toasted sandwich neither was great. Our 2nd visit my husband had the pork and I had a sirloin steak. Sirloin steak was tough and tasteless and I mentioned it to the waitress I felt dismissed. Sirloin steak in 2025 really, I would have at least expected a striplion or a fillet been offered for the price!!!!

The warmest we felt all weekend, so snug, spotless loos; chowder and soup great value and tasted great. 2 glasses ice cold water, no aftertaste. Warm welcome, wifi. Great pitstop on our journey.

Stopped off for dinner on way home. Cajon Chicken burger, Mexican Burger, and Chicken Goujons all got good report, but unfortunately my Hake fish was bad...I expect it sat under the heat lamp for way too long, wasn't hot, neither was the mash potato it sat on. Bad fish in this location was a disappointment...it should have been so much better.

The food, service, atmosphere and staff excel here. I have previously written a review on the Old Thatch many years ago and wish to state that it is as good as it ever was. The fact that there is a constant amount of customers speaks volumes, yet despite being at times extremely busy the food and service is excellent. I would highly recommend a visit here.
