Great pub, fantastic atmosphere, open fire, friendly staff. Food ok, good breakfast. Accommodation is challenging although very clean it is situated at the back of the pub in containers, our room did not have a window, small with a dog as well. Having said this once over the shock the bed is comfortable and water hot. The location is wonderful for walking.

We loved the rusty mackerel, real irish charm, fiddlers playing, peat fire roaring, great auld craic and guinness flowing ...after a days hiking in sleive ligh nothing could be better- just the rooms are a little boxy more like builders cabins but totally conducive to a good nights sleep

We’ve stayed at the Rusty Mackerel during our trips to Sliabh Liag, and this was our fourth visit to Donegal. We keep coming back because of the fantastic atmosphere, the authentic old Irish pub vibe, and the amazing food. It’s always a highlight of our trip, and we’ll happily return every time we’re in the area. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful experience 😊 The food was delicious, and everything was fresh. We especially loved the beautiful designs in the foam of our Guinness. The staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient, making us feel very welcome. We would happily visit again and highly recommend this place. 🍀

The gastropub is amazing. Goat cheese tartlet is unbelievable good. If you’re near this place - don’t miss out

The room was functional and had everything we needed. Unfortunately, there was mold in the bathroom and a pungent odor permeated the entire room. The window was very small. In the cozy and nicely decorated pub, we initially received very attentive service, but this diminished as the number of guests increased. Eventually, the bill was handed to us without much explanation, and we felt somewhat dismissed. Overall, the service was rather uncoordinated, inattentive, and impersonal. This was unfortunately also the case at breakfast. However, the food was consistently delicious and the portions were adequate, especially the burger.

It's a pub full of atmosphere, the staff is friendly, there's always music and the desserts are truly special.
