The Rusty Oven in

Our check-in started off a little rocky because they couldn’t find our reservation. I showed them my confirmation and eventually they found us a room—for less than what I had been quoted.Once we saw the room…We understood why. 😂The rooms are located behind the restaurant and bar and reminded me of a large trailer with connected rooms separated by thin walls. Our room was directly behind the kitchen. It was TINY. So tiny that we could barely open our suitcase. There were no windows, only a small skylight. And once again…HOT. Thick comforter. No airflow. Not exactly the recipe for a good night’s sleep.The second night we actually slept with the door open just to get some fresh air. We ate breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. They had signs claiming to be a “best gastropub,” but unfortunately, we weren’t impressed with the food. Definitely skip the beef stew here. BUT…The pub itself was fantastic. The staff, atmosphere, live music and locals were phenomenal. We had such a great time there that it made up for the room and mediocre food.

We booked last minute and wanted to take our dog and we couldn’t have been happier! Location is fab, rooms at the back of the building are a very clever addition and so modern! Perfect with the dogs that there’s no noise from restaurant or music that will disturb them! The staff are just amazing and friendly and full of fun! Very welcoming! We loved our stay and loved how we could take the dog for dinner and for breakfast then to the pub! It’s the first place I felt comfortable with my dog! Brilliant

Charming traditional public house with the bonus of 'gastro' food, the rusty mackerel was divine and the fish and chips lovely but too much for my wife. Excellent service from the staff yesterday (2nd october '26) Lovely 'drop' of Guinness too, of course!

The Rusty Mackerel is in a great Location & has a lovely old world Trad Irish feel, but, not all good..... We booked 2 nights stay with our little dog as it allows dogs, but, there are no waste bins on or anywhere near the pub, so no where to dispose of dog poop bags?? The rooms were warm and comfy, but container type pods that were small with very limited space and overpriced. Unless you are camping they are the only option in this area, hence they have a monopoly. Their is also no other competition for food in the area bar a campsite Café. This is reflected in the restaurant offerings which can be hit and miss. Some fished are OK, others overdone or reheated. A bit lazy..... Probably won't stay again, but maybe the nearby Campsite 😊

A wonderful experience. I can't say enough about Dennis and his staff. We were booked three nights but at the last minute had to adjust our itinerary and cancel the third night, on that very day! I asked Dennis at breakfast if it was possible, totally understanding if their policy would prevent a refund. Without hesitation he said he understood and would help us out. This was the epitome of Irish hospitality and literally being accommodating! * * * * *

Fantastic fish and chips, best in Ireland, moist brownie - well accompanied by soft ice-cream.

Consistently delicious food and great pull of Guinness!

Only had food which was good but not exceptional. The old part of the building has more atmosphere than the new dining area but the newer part seats so many more customers. Quick & pleasant service.

Nice lunch spot after visiting the Slieve League Cliffs

A really busy spot but service was prompt and food was delicious. Folks near us had two dogs though and they were a bit yappy.
