The Smugglers Rest in Clogherhead

Friday 1st May 2026 went for dinner in Smugglers Rest with seven of my sea swimming friends. We had never been to this restaurant before and I'm happy to say we were very impressed and will definitely return. The food was fabulous: fresh, hot and plentiful portions. We had a variety of dishes ranging from catch of the day, pasta, steak, chowder. The homemade desserts were out of this world, especially the homemade ice cream and crème brulee. The service was very efficient and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The chef and owners were on hand checking in on diners experience. The restaurant was clean and tidy and the toilets were spotless. The décor was in keeping with the sea theme and the ambience was relaxed and friendly. Great choice for our night out.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A welcome addition to the gastro scene in Clogherhead. The food is very good, albeit it one or two strange combinations. Prices reasonable, except for the wine where prices are excessive, service good with friendly staff and owners. Maybe remove some of the plastic flower decorations. Definitely worth repeat visits for the scampi alone. You would probably need to book a table as it's busy
