The Smugglers Rest in Clogherhead

Wow. Very tasty food. The chowder was off the hook, loaded with seafood and the broth was to die for. Fish and chips best I've had in a while. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The staff at The Smuggler's Rest are absolutely excellent, delivering top-tier service from the moment you walk in. Pair that welcoming atmosphere with their menu, and you get what is probably the best seafood in the country, an absolute must.

Amazing food, cocktails and staff

Came in just for a few drinks… ended up having some of the best food I’ve had in a long time. We decided to grab something to eat while we were there and everything was incredible. Fresh, full of flavour and clearly made with real care. Great atmosphere, really friendly service and everything felt relaxed and welcoming. Definitely worth stopping by, even if you’re only planning on having a drink.

Friendly staff, good music, clean and well maintained place, tasty food

This is honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, but the pan-fried fish of the day was on another planet. The combination of flavours was incredible - beautifully balanced, fresh and full of taste. I genuinely didn’t want the plate to end! The Clogherhead scampi were also absolutely amazing. So fresh, perfectly cooked and tender that the fish practically melts in your mouth. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. And the cocktails deserve a special mention too! The syrups are made in-house, and you can really taste the difference. Everything is so perfectly balanced - not overly sweet, but not lacking sweetness either. Just spot on. Every sip felt carefully thought out and complemented the whole dining experience perfectly. The staff deserve a special mention as well, everyone was so lovely, welcoming and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. And regarding the people saying it’s “expensive”… honestly, I don’t understand those reviews. The prices are completely reasonable for the quality, freshness and portion sizes. This is a proper restaurant with high-quality, fresh seafood - not a takeaway. You’re paying for great ingredients, beautifully prepared food, homemade elements and a lovely dining experience, and in my opinion it’s absolutely worth every penny. If you love seafood, The Smugglers Rest is a must-visit. I’m already looking forward to coming back!

We had an excellent dining experience at The Smugglers Restaurante,Food was delicious and presentation was superb. Our waitress for the night was Eabha and she was very professional with a lovely personality. Definitely recommend and we will return

Found this Gastropub on our trip. First meal and Guinness in Ireland. Tucked away in a seaside village.

Brilliant food was excellent had the fish and chips and sea food dish 😋 both fabulous we really enjoyed will be back thank you saff we're very helpful.
