Tir na nOg in Wellingtonbridge

Excellent food and good value for money.

We had two excellent meals in Tir na nÓg during a week's stay in the area. How I wish we had a chef serving this calibre of food in our town. The first meal was for three people at lunchtime. At that meal, two of us chose the chicken breast filled with stuffing enhanced by black pudding. An unusual but delicious combination. The accompaniments were mash and perfectly cooked veg. The meat was deliciously juicy, probably the best chicken breast I've ever had. Our companion had a very good steak sandwich which came with chips and salad. Again this was a tender and tasty piece of meat cooked to perfection. The meal for three, including teas and coffee was €58.00. Our second meal, this time for two in the evening, was outstanding. I had Featherblade beef which had obviously been slow cooked. It was melt in the mouth and gorgeously flavoursome. The mash and veg finished the dish nicely. My companion had a super homemade burger. The meat was succulent and was garnished with caramelised onions, cheese and topped with smoky bacon. It beat any Dublin burger hands down. It came with veg by request. Including tea, coffee and two pints, the bill was less than €50! A gourmet bargain in our estimation. All this and really nice, pleasant and helpful staff. What more could you ask?
