Tomodachi in Galway

I've eaten in Tomodachi many times and have always loved it: it's by far the best Japanese in Galway. Unfortunately there's a but. We never felt that it was good value for money, at least in terms of quantity, but it wasn't too blatant. However over the last year it's become worse and worse. On our last and sadly final visit we ordered Edamame, pork gyoza, a rainbow roll and a chicken and prawn yakiudon. The gyoza and roll weren't generous but were fine. As for the other dishes... The edamame consisted of a tiny pile of maybe 15 to 20 bean pods. It would have fit easily in my closed palm. The yakiudon had 6 or 7 thumb-tip sized pieces of chicken (I'm including the fatty bits) and 4, FOUR, prawns. I called this to the attention of the person I guessed to be the senior waiter only to have her respond very politely and overly sympathetically, in what I took to be a genuine attempt to mollify us. She apologised for the disappointment and explained about the increasing costs. We're all aware of the crisis but the quantities mentioned above are just flatly insulting. With 1 Asahi, a hot sake and a yuzu tea it came to €110. 10% service charge included and no attempt to address my complaint. €110 for a small, quick meal for two. Sorry Tomodachi, we won't be back at those prices.

Absolutely amazing. Food is delicious, and fast to arrive. Pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. The servers are very friendly and attentive. 10/ 10. I will Absolutely be returning

I ate at this place and was dissatisfied. It's not that there was anything bad about it. It's just that the price/quality ratio is extremely high and overpriced. The ramen cost 22 euros, but it tasted like a simple bowl of chicken noodle soup, like from the store. The taste was absolutely ordinary, even poor, lacking vegetables and textures. It would probably have been more fair to see the price at 10 euros and the description "regular, bland chicken soup." The service was good, the waitresses were kind and helpful. The temaki roll was practically empty. For 8 euros, you get a cone of rice wrapped in nori seaweed with two pieces of avocado and a barely perceptible piece of some kind of meat; I didn't even understand what it was. Overall, I was hungry and ate everything with a great deal of sadness. Leaving the place, I felt cheated. Everything will be cool and beautiful when you come here, just don't have high expectations.

Delicious sushi. Top-notch service, and the lovely girls who served us deserve praise. Extremely professional, smiling, and helpful. Highly recommended. The sushi disappeared so quickly I didn't have time to take a picture.

An absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Really delicious and plenty of options too if sushi isn’t your thing, though I’d highly recommend it. Staff were lovely. Can’t wait to go back.

I've eaten here many times over the last 4 years and never had a bad experience. Staff are absolutely lovely and very professional and attentive. The food is gorgeous, very fresh and very affordable. 100% recommend this place!

Not a great start with a podium at top of stairs announcing a mandatory 10% service charge . Service was reserved and there was no genuine attempt to engage and explain the menu , which is fine . room is large but quite echoey . When more people arrived they put on light music which was much better . The biggest issue was 45 minute wait for maki rolls to arrive . Another few minutes and we would have walked out . Nice food if expensive for the portion sizes . An online order of sushi comes in under 40 mins …

Really nice sushi and really lovely looking place. The staff were very nice. Great for lesbian date nights
