The Singing Pub

Downings
01/09/2024: Had been recommended this pub from a few sources and as I was staying at a campsite nearby decided to go there for an early dinner on a Sunday afternoon with my dog. On arrival there is a sign saying ‘please wait to be seated’ and after 10 minutes of waiting and no-one acknowledging me standing there, I asked the barman if someone would be over - he said to just find a table, which I did. Must have sat for about 15 minutes being ignored by the waiting staff who just kept walking past me and I had to intercept one member staff and ask for my order to be taken. Food arrived quickly and it was ok - nothing special. I was then hoping to be offered the dessert menu but after sitting, being ignored again, for probably 20 minutes I decided to just ask for the bill. I also had to ask a couple of times for the bill !! All in all quite a disappointing visit and on that basis I wouldn’t be recommending it.
26/08/2024: A big group of us ate at this very busy restaurant. It is outside Downings and there is a large but busy car park. There is also a children’s playground for when you are waiting. Service good although you need a lot of time as restaurant very busy and quite big. We ate at 5.30 pm and there was no music. I don’t know when they have music or why it is called the Singing Pub. A good range of food choices. Quite large portions. The children in our group did not like the pizza. Brie on bruschetta was tasty but huge. All in all a good option for a large group but booking essential.
