20/11/2024: We are in Ireland for a couple weeks and have eaten at 2 of the finest hotels on the island but they pale in comparison to the authentic local fare served here at Carney’s. The seafood chowder was exactly what I had hoped for on this cold and rainy evening and was served piping hot with a side of delicious mashed potato. My wife had the Vol au Vents and it was hearty and delicious as well. All served and the Guinness poured perfectly by Katrina who was an superb host and she cheerfully provided local information and was very attentive to our needs. Highly recommend.

22/11/2024: Stayed at The Bowers while on a business trip, as I was going to be arriving after midnight the staff were very accommodating by leaving a key out for me. The room itself was very dated with some mismatched furniture and does require a makeover. Can’t fault the bed as it was one of the best I have slept in. I was visiting at a time when the temperature had plummeted and found that the heating goes off at night, was like sleeping in a freezer. Can’t fault the management as they sorted the heating out after I reported it. Be aware that breakfast only starts at 9 so may not fit into business trips, I was lucky enough to have a late start on one day and tried the breakfast. Only I can say is if you can delay any meetings till 10 have the breakfast as it is amazing.

06/02/2025: Good local store. Going there because of its convenient location. But prices on shelves are sometimes smaller than at the till. But one star I give because of rising prices after the recent storm Eowyn as they were the only open store in Ballinrobe. Paid €56 for two tins of azera coffee americano and decaf. Dozen eggs and milk. My granny told me never make many on somebody's suffering and stay away from people who do.
