03/01/2025: Delicious home made foods like fish pie, sausage rolls, lasagne and gourmet sandwiches, cakes and treats. They usually have the fire going so its cosy and warm. There's lots of second hand books to browse or read whilst having a coffee or hot chocolate. The staff are friendly and efficient. Cafe is town centre so everything is on your doorstep like thrift shops, old churches and graveyards, pubs, shops, chemist, hotel.. the book market cafe is like a taste of home in kells in meath

22/10/2024: First time there yesterday. Real friendly spot. We were told it would take a bit of time to be served as they were really bussy. Worth waiting for. We will be back😉

19/12/2024: Disappointing Experience Despite Efforts to Make It Right We visited Jacks Bar as a family on a busy night, hoping for a great meal, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. While we understand it was a packed evening, the service was notably slow—only three servers were handling both food delivery and taking orders for a full house, which led to long delays and a lack of attention to detail. To start, we ordered garlic bread, and what we received was not garlic bread at all but instead a dry naan. It was not what we were expecting, and frankly, it was quite unappetizing. Then, the main courses arrived. I ordered the fish and chips, and the portion size was shockingly small—there was barely any fish, which was a major disappointment. We also ordered Cajun pasta, and it was another letdown. The flavor was lacking, and the overall dish was underwhelming. Two of our party ordered chicken burgers, and unfortunately, they were burnt, while the fries served with them were dry and nearly inedible. It was hard to believe that such basic items could be executed so poorly. On the positive side, the staff was apologetic and did offer to take some meals off the bill, which was a nice gesture. When speaking to the waiter, we were informed there was a new chef in the kitchen, which might explain the noticeable decline in quality. Despite the efforts to make things right, the overall experience was disappointing, and it’s hard to see us returning in the near future. We hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously, especially with the new chef on board, to improve the quality of both food and service going forward.

30/11/2024: Lovely atmosphere and good food. We would have liked to have a lunch option but brunch is served until 3 pm.

01/12/2024: Fabulous place , lovely & welcoming staff. Cosy atmosphere & very clean. Food is unreal. Crab claws and venison perfectly cooked. Looking forward to going back. 🫶🏽❣️

14/11/2024: Im sorry but this restaurant deserves a Michelin star, it was the best meal I’ve had in a long time and prices are amazing. I’m so happy I booked in.

21/10/2024: Spotless clean very quiet at getting food out and food is at a very high standard 👌 only one little thing they need a bit of help in coffee spot as if it's anyway busy they need 2 to 3 in there making coffee on 2 machines not getting in each other's way , but always good coffee and definitely best staff in there

08/12/2024: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ i can’t recommend The Blackwater in Kells enough! Not only is the food and atmosphere top-notch, but the staff go above and beyond. Trish, in particular, was incredible—so kind, caring, and thoughtful. She even went out of her way to drop us home, which was beyond generous. It’s rare to find such amazing hospitality these days. We’ll definitely be back—thank you, Trish, for making our experience unforgettable!

16/06/2024: Bar service was slick and the pints were very good but although lively there wasn't any real atmosphere. Too modern and too brightly lit for my taste.

07/12/2024: Anytime I am in kells this is the Chinese I go to and tell people about food is amazing I’ve been getting it since it has open would 100% recommend as it never disappoints

30/11/2024: Absolutely love the food from there and order it whenever i can, portions are amazing, food is delicious, and the delivery is so quick!! I hope they stay open forever

28/10/2024: A great friedly local. Our second time to visit this establishment. Very friendly owners and the locals, too. They don't serve food here. Gents toilets stink but are fairly modern. Women's toilets are fine. A bit of bleach wouldn't go astray.
