Literally the first pub i walked in to after getting off the plane, and they had a guy playing country music! (And some Oasis & others). Tried a great new beer too, "Beamish". Think I'm gonna like it here.

I donât usually leave reviews, but after reading a guestâs review about a wedding at the Blackbird and Trawler Boys, I felt I should share our experience.
We visited a few months ago, and the pub was buzzing, which I love to see in a small local spot. The bar staff were really friendly and helpful, explaining how everything worked. We then went to the back area where the Trawler Boys are. They had a great menu, though some items were sold out, which I saw as a good sign of fresh ingredients.
We ran into a hiccup when ordering. Our young server, she had blonde curly hair, and was quite smal, gave me a list of gluten-free items. Unfortunately, half of the items she mentioned werenât actually gluten-free. Luckily, another staff member overheard and stepped in. His name is Oscer (I think from what I gathered from the other reviews and locals ) and he was amazing. He went over the real gluten-free options, answered all our questions, and really turned the experience around for us.
There was a bit of a wait, but the food was worth itâhuge portions and really delicious. I had the pan-fried fish of the day with potatoes, green veg, and a white wine sauce, plus the chowder which oscer recommended . Everything was amazing, and I couldnât finish it all.
The locals around us were also singing Oscerâs praises, and honestly, I can see why. I was shocked to learn heâs only 16âhe acted way beyond his years. I honestly thought he was a manager. I hope the Trawler Boys and Blackbird continue to thrive, and I hope everyone gets Oscer as their serverâitâll make your visit so much better. My only suggestion is to make sure all staff are properly trained, especially when it comes to dietary restrictions.
The only other issue I had, was some of the language that came out of the kitchen, with their open plan style, you can see the full kitchen. The chefs had quite loud music on, I donât mind music as it creates a good atmosphere, but the music they were playing had consistent curse words, and rasist slurs. I understand these days every song has something like that in it, but for an open plan area where there are kids, and people from all different backgrounds, they should not be playing that type of stuff. Regular music would be way better, and turn it down a bit. I hope to come back again in the summer time
