03/04/2024: Have eaten here many times but last time I arrived, at 12.15 on a Friday , was told to stand waiting for a table (among our party was a 86 year old who has limited mobility) while others bypassed the queue and joined a carvery one. After a considerable time the addled server told us — and a few others— there was no table service and menu and that instead we should join the carvery queue which by this point was huge . The Elm Tree doesn’t take table reservations at lunch and while this means they pack them in, it’s not a system that is customer friendly and in fact it seems v inefficient for very frazzled staff. In the end, we left and went elsewhere. I’m not sure we will ever bother to go there again It’s a shame as on other occasions we’ve dined there and been happy enough, although the food offerings for a vegetarian are limited— and especially so if you’re obliged to go to the carvery and not allowed to get table service with a menu of other options
