Butcher in Kilkenny

The place is a little overrated. Other reviewers seem to rave about the quality of the steaks. Based on our experience, these were just mediocre. They were cooked medium rare per our request, but were not juicy and the texture was a little mealy. Steaks come with a free dipping sauce, so maybe that’s part of the reason. My daughter ordered one of the burgers and it was way overcooked. Absolutely zero pink or juiciness to the burger. Burgers come loaded with toppings so maybe that’s the reason. My wife got the cod. That dish was actually pretty incredible. The side dishes were great. Mac & cheese, vegetables. The cocktails were very well done. Very extensive drink list. The atmosphere is very energetic. A bit noisy but fun. Service was just OK. I’m sure other servers are better than others but ours never came by to ask how our meal was. The hostess did get us seated right away, even though there were no reservations. If you want to try it, I recommend walking in.

Second time here, both times a had the steak. The best steak I've ever had, and I can confirm it the second time. Order STEAK! You can get good burger in alot of places but steak this good is very hard to find.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an excellent experience at Butcher in Kilkenny. The service was great friendly and attentive without being overbearing and the food arrived quickly. We both had the rib eye (medium rare), which was cooked to perfection tender, flavorful, and just the right level of char. The sides of onions, mushrooms, and sweet potato fries were delicious and well prepared. We also had a bottle of wine and a large sparkling water, and the total came to €125, which we thought was fantastic value considering the quality. Everything was top notch. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great steak and a lovely night out in Kilkenny.

The steak was delicious. The sauces as well. And the service was exceptional. Dreaming about that meal right now! Highly recommend.

Absolutely gorgeous meal from start to finish. All the starters looked and sounded delicious, but when we knew what a feast was ahead we shared a wings to start which were really fab - "proper" chicken wings! We opted for a cowboy steak, fillet steak and our daughter had a farmer burger. The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection! It's fair to say we are fussy customers and the quality of the steak was just out of this world. We ordered an array of sides and I can say the side salad was supreme - a meal in itself! Definitely there is no need for more than one side per person with a steak or burger...order a selection, the portions are really plentiful. My only gripe was that on a previous visit I was placed on the outskirts of the restaurant so my husband called to see if we could be more in the centre and while he was told no tables can be assured, which is restaurant policy, I understand - but we were placed by the toilets. The table was fine, but it was a special night for us and this kind of led to a bad start... BUT... it was such a beautiful meal it didn't matter. Thank you so much and we look forward to next time. Service was also five star *****

Top class as always, we skipped starters although I did notice the mini taco’s which are delightful were not in the menu ? The steaks were fantastic , 3 of us had 3 different steaks and the were all excellent . You pay for quality and the food , service and asmosohere are all top class. Sides are huge and need refining or a suggestion of sharing. Our waiters were element and whilst I always feel we over change for wine in Ireland they have a distant range of very drinkable wines in the low €30’s range. If you are a first timer you will go back, we travel regularly from Carlow, it is worth the excursion. Whilst the probably do have a vegan or vegetarian choice my suggestion is this is not for you, every other restaurant is for you . Probably the best steakhouse in the south-east it not Ireland but very hard to get a booking . Don’t change anything and with the reduction is Vat coming it will be 4.5% cheaper going forward .
