Revamped entrance & upper bar area. Looks well. Was there about 1.45pm. There was only one group of retirees there having coffee & they were leaving when I got there. The waitress was busy chatting to someone at the bar - she ignored me. I eventually approached the bar & enquired if I could get food there, or if I needed to go down to the other (lower) area of the bar (as used to be the case). She seemed surprised that I was looking for food (at lunchtime!). I then asked if I could have a menu, which she produced 2 copies of. She took my order pretty quickly & arrived with a nice jug of iced water & 2 sets of cutlery. It was ages before the food arrived. I ordered chicken wings with salad. A waiter arrived with a finger bowl - the water was well cooled by the time the food arrived! The food was lovely, so it's a pity about the service. The proprietor passed in & out a few times while I was there. He made no attempt to engage with any of the customers. Poor form I thought. I used to go there in the past & found it lot more friendly.

We had a wonderful time at the Clew Bay Hotel. Perfect location for experiencing Westport and the staff are wonderful both from our own experience and watching them interact with other guests. Rooms nice clean and modern and spacious bar and dining area.

A lovely hotel in the heart of Westport. The room was big, comfortable, and over looking the river. A great selection and service throughout breakfast. I would recommend the hotel as a base if you are touring the West of Ireland, especially County Mayo.

The Clew Bay was a lovely quaint but luxurious (for the price) hotel. The staff from the front desk to the bar and restaurant were brilliant. Special mention to Karen and Margaret for their help and kindness. The room was brilliant , with a fantastic view of the river Moy and a little balcony to stand on, if the weather was warmer. The bed was so comfortable we missed the breakfast the first morning. Thankfully we got it the second morning, and it was delicious, with plenty of variety and the full breakfast was cooked to perfection. Unlike other hotels, there was plenty of staff and we wanted for nothing. Overall if you're visiting lovely Westport, stay at the Clew Bay and you won't be disappointed. Oh, and ring for reservations, you'll get a better deal than doing it on the websites.

The hotel we normally stay at is closed for refurbishment but when we contacted them this was the first of three places they advised us to stay at. There is some parking on the street but you’d be lucky to find an empty spot. The email we received advised to park in the leisure centre car park and it cost €3 for 24 hours, make sure you display the ticket in your car. To get to the hotel you just walk back the way you came into the car park and turn left, you can see the hotel, it isn’t far to walk. The entrance to the hotel is on street level, the outer doors were open but the inner door were closed and are manual. We were greeted by a pleasant member of staff who booked us in and advised us about the bar and breakfast. Breakfast is from 08:30 - 10:30 and we were advised to book a slot to avoid delays. The piece of paper we were given by the receptionist advised about breakfast, the bar and the free wi-fi but also let’s you know you have complimentary access to the facilities at the Westport Leisure Park, you get a towel and pass from reception. We used the lift by the entrance to the bar to go to the 2nd floor. On exiting there were a few steps up to the corridor to our room. There was a second lift behind the reception desk that when you take to the 2nd floor avoided the steps. Nice room, massive bed, big TV, enough plug sockets, tea/coffee facilities and a small table/ chairs. Bathroom has double sinks and a nice sized shower. As you would expect the rooms are No Smoking but there is a sign in the room that states if they detect a smell of smoke on the room there will be a charge of €100 to deep clean the room. I assume that the No smoking rule applies to vaping but as neither of us smoke or vape it’s not an issue for us. We spent the evening in the hotel bar, €12 for two pints of Rockshore. The lady serving us was polite and friendly; the bar is open until 01:00 and although at one point we were the only people in the bar at no point were we rushed to finish our drinks or refused service. There are steps from reception to the dining area. Again staff were polite and friendly. There was a selection of cereals, yoghurts, juices, bread & pastries and a served breakfast, which was included in the price. I went for the traditional Irish which was very tasty. Overall a nice stay. Downside: on Google it stars the hotel is wheelchair accessible; I have a friend who is a wheelchair user and would have difficulty getting around in this hotel. It also shows on google that there is leisure facilities which implies they are on site, the facilities are at the leisure centre on the other side of the car park. Upsides: If our preferred hotel is still closed for refurbishment when we are next in Westport I would happily stay here.

Cronin's Sheebeen

02/04/2024: Top experience - superb seafood, kind staff and vibrant atmosphere! The oysters couldn't be any fresher (straight from the sea to our plates!), the scallops were the best I have ever eated (gave me goosebumps, no joke!) and both the ray and the pork belly were just pure perfection. If I could go beyond 5 star rating, I would - really a place that redefines what a fish can taste like. Thank you very much for an unforgettable evening!
20/03/2024: Lovely little pub with spectacular views of Westport coast. The food was amazing, and the service was brilliant too.

Savoir Fare

03/02/2024: Delightful place in the centre of Westport. Great food using locally sourced products. Wonderful selection of Irish cheeses and charcuterie. Jolly atmosphere which can be assisted with a glass or two of wine from the special selection. Alain, the proprietor can advise.
31/12/2023: Great food and excellent wine with very friendly service. Will be back
