I got into the pub and the music was there. A lovely group playing a nice, smooth and evolving music, bodhrán included. Just great, believe it. As a plus, beef stew was tasty. It is a good place for a chilled talk and some drinks.

The best pub and bistro in Westmeath for sure !!! Food ( always such a variety to choose from, generous portions , lovely atmosphere, service just fantastic!!! We are regulars in there and always getting the best experience!🥰 definitely recommend when in Athlone 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Simply the best Gastro pub in Athlone for sure !! The nicest pints and delicious food all the time. Have been coming to Gertie Brownes regularly now and it's definitely our favourite place 🥰👍🏼 mr Peter the owner , is the nicest man ever all the staff members are super nice and polite

Traditional Irish pub with great decoration to enjoy. Fantastic pint of Guinness. Had a good chat with the manager Morgan who gave us a nice insight to life in Athlone. Didnt have any food but everything going out to the tables looked, and smelled, delicious! Will be back soon.

Bacchus Restaurant

30/06/2026: Solid food on our drive from Dublin to Galway. Weird menu but well executed food. You will have to prompt the family serving when you're ready to order or need more drinks and again to pay, but food came fairly quickly. We dined at lunch overlooking the river.

18/06/2026: I happened upon this little gem on a rainy Thursday evening and was delighted to do so. The dogs are just beautiful and the Guinness is very good.
