Il Vicolo in Galway

Lovely place. We went in the summer so we seated outside with a great river view. The restaurant atmosphere is great and service is excellent. Great location in Galway town. Food was fantastic. They also have good variety of wine available. If you are around and like Italian food this is place is an excellent option.

Before our trip to Ireland, we asked an Irish friend for recommendations. His only suggestion was to have dinner at an Italian restaurant in Galway. We were amused at first, but now we completely understand why—Il Vicolo is fantastic. From its romantic waterfront setting to the warm, attentive service and exceptional food, we felt transported to Italy. Every dish was perfectly prepared, from the scallops and osso bucco to the fresh, perfectly al dente pasta. We finished with a delicious tiramisu featuring a subtle touch of locally distilled whiskey, a uniquely Irish twist on an Italian classic. Now if someone asks me for Ireland recommendations, I too will be recommending an Italian restaurant!

Stumbled upon this restaurant on an impromptu trip to Galway and am so glad I did. Everything was incredible from start to finish. Great staff, great service, amazing food and wine especially the truffle pasta. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Wonderful food. Very friendly staff. Reasonable (not huge) portions. A bit pricey. I had the black sole, my wife had the taggliotino, and we had the rum baba for dessert. The food was really excellent. Difficult to have a conversation though because it was quite noisy with a large group of people at one table. We'll definitely be back.

I’ve visited IL Vicolo three times, and my experience has been a mix of highs and lows. My first visit was absolutely fantastic. The food was delicious, everything was beautifully prepared, and I left thinking I had found one of my favourite Italian restaurants. Unfortunately, my second visit wasn’t as good. The oysters didn’t seem as fresh as I expected, and overall the food wasn’t at the same standard as my first experience. I decided to give the restaurant another chance, but during my third visit several dishes weren’t available because some ingredients had run out. It gave me the impression that, as the restaurant becomes more popular, it’s struggling a little to keep up with demand. That said, the staff deserve special recognition. Every member of the team has always been warm, attentive and professional, and their service has remained consistently excellent. My only suggestion would be to pay a little more attention to stock management and, above all, maintain the same food quality that made this restaurant stand out in the first place. I truly believe that’s what built its reputation. I would definitely come back in the future because I know what this restaurant is capable of. I just hope it can return to the exceptional standard that made my first visit so memorable.

One of the best restaurants in Galway by far. The staff was incredible, super knowledgeable and nice. I don’t think words are enough to describe how good the food was. You could feel the love and attention that was put into it. The terrace was such a lovely place to have a glass of wine, regardless of the irish weather. Overall a true 5/5.

Great service! Ribeye had lovely flavor but not the rare that was requested.

Can’t fault this restaurant at all. Amazing food and the service was even better. Claudia and Alexy were both amazing I felt so comfortable and they had amazing recommendations. I can’t wait to go again!!

My goodness what a gem we found. I can't recommend this place enough! Our waitress who was possibly Italian herself. She was so lovely and welcoming and gave us some history on some of the dishes. The olive focaccia bread that was brought over at the start was beautifully baked and so well flavoured. I ordered a pork pasta dish and my friend had the carbonara. My dish was well presented and just the right portion size. The sausage meat has a hint of spice and was just so lovely. My friend admitted it was the nicest carbonara dish she has ever had! We decided to try the cocktail menu and went for Italian Lady. What a drink! Tiramisu is one of my favorite desserts and can be a real hit or miss in restaurants. A lot of the time they can end up not soaking the sponge fingers in coffee/liquor for long enough and it is quite dry but the sponge was moist and the egg whites were very well beaten into the layers as the creamy texture and flavour was divine. Being a bit of a food snob as I grew up with a pastry chef who studied in France as a Mother, I can tell you the food here was just incredible and if you like to find hidden gems that has great offer great flavours and a nice atmosphere this is it. I would love to come back and visit again and will be recommending it to friends and family. Thank you for having us.
