It’s what you expect: intricate plating prepared with fairly classic techniques (foams, gels etc). Everything cooked perfectly and glimpses of a few exciting flavours. The room is very quiet - this is a hushed tones kind of place with almost no decor - it feels like a rented space, not a long standing restaurant with any discernible personality. Service was kind, but not at the highest level (examples: dishes were introduced but not explained in any detail. They took my napkin when I left for the restroom and forgot to replace it for ages. They didn’t notice chips in the wine glass rim. The pacing was extremely uneven - long gaps between courses meant we were there over 4 hours). And the wine pairing unfortunately didn’t add anything to the food. I think it’s a good place for the golf club crowd who like classic, approachable fine dining.

Exquisite dining experience. Enjoyed the tasting menu with accompanying wines selected by the sommelier. Beautiful dining room in the Manor House. Food was amazing and enjoyed speaking to the Head Chef who visited our table to discuss the food and his preparation of the dishes.

Lady Helen – An Overwrought Experience in a Stodgy Setting
Visited: July 26, 2025 | Tasting Menu Dinner | Birthday Trip
Lady Helen may be a Michelin-starred restaurant, but for us, it missed the mark — especially in pacing, atmosphere, and guest experience.
🍽️ Food & Pacing
The menu leans heavily into conceptual creativity, which we usually enjoy, but here it overshadowed the dining experience. The Parmesan tomato was a highlight, but overall, flavors were good—not exceptional. The real issue was timing. Despite the first few courses being single bites, the meal dragged on for over 3.5 hours, with 15–30 minutes between dishes. By the time we reached the mains, we were fatigued and just ready to leave. It felt like a test of endurance, not a celebration of food.
🥤 Non-Alcoholic Options
We don’t drink alcohol, and Lady Helen is not set up for guests like us. There were no mocktails or tea offered, and the non-alcoholic wine was cloyingly sweet. My husband asked for a 0.0% beer, which wasn’t on the menu but was eventually provided. Once our sparkling water ran out (two bottles), our glasses were cleared without any offer of tap water — which oddly is offered at breakfast in the same room. Other tables were served coffee and tea at the end of their meal; we were skipped entirely.
🪑 Atmosphere & Service
The room’s layout is disorienting. All guests face inward toward a cluster of center tables, creating an odd “spotlight” effect on whoever is seated there (we were). No background music means the space gets louder as drinks flow — not ideal for a fine dining setting. Staff were kind but seemed undertrained and inconsistent. Despite the 15-minute staggered seating model, pacing was all over the place. Guests seated after us were served ahead of us and left nearly an hour earlier. For a venue at this level, service should feel seamless — it did not.
💡 Final Thoughts
We wouldn’t return or recommend it. While pricing is lower than other Michelin-starred restaurants, the value matches. If you’re willing to dedicate 4 hours to a drawn-out meal in a formal, oddly laid-out space with little ambiance, it may still be worth a try. But we left disappointed, uncomfortable, and counting down the courses.

Absolutely magical. I spent an unforgettable evening at Lady Helen — every course of the Michelin-starred menu was a masterpiece that touched something deep in me. I’ve dined in many places, but this experience truly blew my mind. The warmth and grace of the staff made me feel not just welcomed, but cared for. A night I’ll carry with me for a long, long time. Thank you guys, love & peace❤️🍀👌🏼Roger

I don’t think this place was really worth it. The wine pairing was very weak, and the food was good, but it seems like they just focus on technique rather than pairing flavors and finding their own individuality and uniqueness.
I get that a lot of these single star places that have held a star for a while are a bit stuffy, and that was the same here. The place seemed a bit soulless.
At the end of the day, the food was still of high quality, I just think the value was far off, so if you have money to kill maybe think about going here, but I wouldn’t for a special occasion.

As beautiful to watch as good to eat. The chef comes to put the Comté cheese sauce on the meat and to chat. The team is very cute and friendly. It was worth the special trip from Dublin.

Very good option if sleeping in the hotel. All in all good experience. Perhaps a bit too generous with desserts (3 + petit four) - limited wine list and overly priced.
Very kind and passionate staff: especially Jonathan was an unparalleled chaperone for this experience.

Had an experience of a lifetime here. The food was absolutely stunning in presentation and taste. Everything was perfectly timed and the staff were kind, attentive and professional! I have several allergies that had to be accounted for and with each plate I was impressed by the creative interpretation of the allergy option. I never felt let down nor that I was eating a different tasting menu. All the guest with me couldn’t stop raving about how wonderful the flavors were.
I would highly recommend this dining experience and send high praise to the chef!
