Layla's in Dublin

The lemon tart was good but it was a little bit hot.

The food at Layla's Rooftop Restaurant is very good, with Italian dishes that are well prepared and full of flavour. As French/Italian people previously living in Paris and used to elevated dining experiences, we were however a bit disappointed by the service, which sometimes felt somewhat pedantic rather than genuinely warm and refined. Considering the price of dishes, this should definitely be addressed, as premium should never rhyme with pretentiousness.

Very nicely greeted and served well throughout. Cocktails were beautiful (old fashioneds). Starters were the Lambay crab brioche and the veal & fresh tuna. The veal & tuna was exquisite. The crab to brioche ratio was skewed and the bread was dry. The main was the 'spaghetti cacio e pepe with braised beef' and 'striploin steak'. The spaghetti sauce was very nice but it did split. The problem with the dish was the inconsistency. Sometimes a mouthful had silky al dente pasta and succulent melted beef, and other times the pasta was clumped and the beef was dry. (Almost like they came from two different kitchens.) If I could have the former, i would rate it a 10, however the inconsistency forces me to give it a 7. The steak tasted acrid and artificially charred. It left a burned taste in the mouth. The fat hadn't rendered and the meat was taut. The honey was too generously applied to the rocket and the rocket was too generously applied to the steak. The pepper sauce was watery and didn't adhere to anything. The truffle fries were divine. We ordered the Sangiovese 2024. It was full bodied and delicious. The lovely night was capped off with a round of Sambucca espressos, which surprisingly, raised an eyebrow amongst staff in an Italian restaurant. We look forward to seeing this drink on the menu next time we visit.

Very lovely spot to enjoy a brunch or dinner. Great staff too. Maybe just a small work on seasoning the food for a better flavour.

A fantastic rooftop restaurant! The view of Dublin is truly lovely, especially to the west with its view of the Wicklow Hills. Don't open the windows, though, as there are beehives on the terrace...
